Established as a Game Sanctuary in early 1960's, it was declared as a Wildlife Sanctuary in 1964 and subsequently upgraded to a status of a National Park in 1993. The National Park is regarded as one of the finest wildlife refuges in the region and is a veritable storehouse of biodiversity. RMNP Hosts SAFE Ecopreneurs for an Immersive Conservation Experience

Royal Manas National Park (RMNP) was pleased to host SAFE ecopreneurs from the Loden Foundation on their field visit, supported by UNEP, designed to provide immersive exposure to sustainable, forest- and nature-based enterprises with positive environmental and community impact.

The participants engaged in sessions on protected area management and biodiversity conservation, sustainable forest management and community partnerships, and opportunities and challenges for nature-based businesses in protected landscapes.

They also visited community-based human-wildlife conflict mitigation initiatives, including Quick Response Teams (QRTs) and electric fencing sites, and interacted with community members in Umling and Taraythang to gain firsthand insights into community-led conservation.

The visit offered a valuable platform for knowledge exchange, inspiration, and exploring pathways that connect conservation, communities, and sustainable nature-based enterprises. 🌿🀝

RMNP Wishes Mr. Tsherab Dorji Well on His Next Journey

Royal Manas National Park wishes Mr. Tsherab Dorji all the very best as he leaves the Park to pursue further studies.

Having served the Park since 2021, in various capacities under the Forest Resources Protection and Management Section and, most recently, led the Nature Conservation Section, he has made valuable contributions to the Park’s conservation and management efforts.
RMNP wishes him every success in his studies and future endeavours and eagerly looks forward to welcoming him back upon completion of his studies.
The Nature Conservation Section has been formally handed over to Mr. Tshering Dorji, Sr. FO.

Nature’s resilience is on full display with our buffalo herd! This season marks a beautiful new beginning as three tiny calves were born just a week ago, safely joining the herd.
With a dozen more offspring expected this season, the herd’s future is looking strong and vibrant. Nature always finds a way!

Coinciding with World Ranger Day 2026, Royal Manas National Park marked the occasion with one of its most significant administrative events: the formal handover and takeover of the Park's management.

Mr. Tshering Dorji, who successfully led the Park for the past four months, formally handed over the management of RMNP to Mr. Yeshi Tshering, who was recently transferred from Phibsoo Wildlife Sanctuary.
Although his tenure was brief, Mr. Tshering demonstrated exceptional leadership, commitment, and professionalism in steering the Park's management. His dedication and ability to lead during this period were highly appreciated and reflected his strong leadership potential.
Mr. Yeshi Tshering brings with him extensive experience in wildlife conservation and protected area management, having served in several offices under the Department of Forests and Park Services. Most recently, he was part of the team at Phibsoo Wildlife Sanctuary, which was recognized as the Best Division under the Department of Forests and Park Services for the fiscal year 2025–2026.
The Royal Manas National Park family extends its sincere appreciation to Mr. Tshering Dorji for his dedicated service and warmly welcomes Mr. Yeshi Tshering to his new role. We are confident that his vast knowledge, experience, and leadership will further strengthen the Park's conservation efforts and guide RMNP towards achieving even greater milestones in the years ahead.

World Ranger Day 2026 | Royal Manas National Park

Royal Manas National Park proudly commemorated World Ranger Day 2026 to honour the dedication, courage, and selfless service of rangers in protecting Bhutan's rich natural heritage.
The observance began with a Lhabsang ceremony, the recitation of His Majesty's Zhabten, and a flag-hoisting ceremony as a tribute to the commitment of rangers. Special prayers were also offered in remembrance of the fallen rangers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
The Park also took the opportunity to felicitate staff who were recently promoted, recognizing their dedication, hard work, and professional achievements.
Royal Manas National Park extends its sincere appreciation to all rangers for their unwavering commitment to conservation and wishes everyone a meaningful World Ranger Day.

International Tiger Day – 29 July 2026

The global wild tiger population has risen to an estimated 5,574–5,711, up from around 3,200 in 2010β€”a remarkable conservation success.
Bhutan proudly supports this recovery with a thriving population of 131 tigers, reflecting a 27% increase in recent years. In Royal Manas National Park (RMNP)β€”a key source landscapeβ€”the number of tigers has grown from 10 in 2010 to 29 in 2024, nearly tripling over the years.
In Bhutanese culture, the tiger symbolizes strength, protection, and spiritual power, often revered as a guardian of the natural and sacred world. Protecting the tiger means safeguarding our forests, water sources, and the balance of life itself.
This success is the result of dedicated efforts by our frontline staff and strong partnerships. RMNP continues to strengthen conservation through:
β€’ Hunter to Hermit Programme – transforming former poachers into conservation stewards
β€’ Elephant-Friendly Villages – promoting coexistence and reducing conflict
β€’ Livelihood support – Jersey cow distribution, biogas installation, and electric fencing
β€’ Intensive habitat management – grassland improvement, fodder plantations, waterholes, and mineral lick development
