Today, we say a bittersweet farewell to a true cornerstone of our Consulate family, who is moving on after 32 remarkable years of dedicated service. For over three decades, Vania's unwavering commitment, warmth, and hard work have profoundly contributed to the success of our mission and to the pride of South Africa. To us, she became much more than a colleague - she became family. While we will miss her presence, guidance, and warmth immensely, we are very excited for her next chapter. Thank you for your historic contribution, and we wish you abundant joy, health, and success in all your future endeavours. Hamba kahle!

South Africa ranks #52 globally in the StartupBlink Global Startup Ecosystem Index 2026, maintaining its position as the top startup ecosystem in Africa for a third consecutive year. South Africa also has two cities in Africa’s top five: Cape Town and Johannesburg. 🇿🇦🇧🇷 South Africa–Brazil Mining and Minerals Trade Mission.

From 13-15 August, the Consulate-General hosted a delegation of seven South African companies from the mining & minerals, capital equipment and machinery sectors in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais - Brazil’s mining hub, with support from the Dept of Trade, Industry & Competition (dtic).

The delegation engaged with leading Brazilian mining and engineering companies, including a pioneer in generative AI for mining, as well as Anglo-American and Multotec, a South African success story operating in Brazil’s lithium mining sector. The programme also included a series of productive B2B meetings, creating new opportunities for commercial partnerships and investment.

With Brazil’s mining sector entering a major investment cycle - including an estimated US$20 billion in investment in iron ore and regional projects within IBRAM’s broader US$76.9 billion 2026 -2030 investment outlook - there is significant potential to deepen South Africa–Brazil commercial cooperation in mining and mining technology.

A delegation of women-owned companies in South Africa's defence sector undertook a trade selling mission to São Paulo from 13-15 August 2026, with support from the Dept of Trade, Industry & Competition (dtic). Dr Khulile Mtsetfwa, CEO of Swarek Defence & Aerospace; and Ms Zama Ledidi, Managing Director of Unipro Protective Wear, had a number of fruitful meetings and site visits, including with Embraer and various Brazilian companies. They also attended the COP International Fair 2026, one of the biggest public security expos in Latin America. 🤝
The delegation identified exciting opportunities for their companies during the visit, and it is hoped these will materialise into mutually beneficial business partnerships, highlighting South Africa's position as the gateway to the African market. The Consulate-General will continue to provide support to such initiatives, that serve to strengthen bilateral economic relations under the Brazil–South Africa Strategic Partnership 🇧🇷🇿🇦
