For small businesses interested in small business grants, there are strict requirements as far as accounting and accountability. These grants are from taxpayer money. The government puts strict guidelines in place to ensure the grantee spends the money in the way they indicated on the grant application. The application process itself is daunting for many small business owners. The business must meet certain guidelines and have the ability to conduct the work. After the grant award, the business must provide ongoing proof of how they use the money and what results they get from the research conducted.

Who can apply? Eligibility Requirements
If you have an interest in applying for small business grants from the federal government, you need to qualify as a small business under the Small Business Administration guidelines. If the business qualifies, the next step in determining eligibility depends on the particular grant program in question. You can search the listings by category or by keywords. The list includes grants on research in many different categories including agriculture, transportation, energy, education, defense, and science to name just a few.

Small business grants have different requirements of those applying for the grant. To understand this, look at this example. The Department of Agriculture's National Institute of Food and Agriculture provides grants for food safety research. This grant application is open to just about anyone. However, in order to qualify for this grant, you have to conduct project research into reducing food-borne illnesses with improved food safety. The grants go out based on the project proposal the small business puts together. A business that specializes in providing security guards is unlikely to qualify. A company that develops food safety equipment and products might just qualify.

OPIOID RESPONSE COMMUNITY GRANTS

Saint Paul - Ramsey County Public Health (SPRCPH) is investing up to $1,000,000 in community-led organizations whose work addresses one of the Opioid Response Initiative priority areas:

Pregnant people, parents and babies.
Culturally-specific approaches for treatment and recovery.
Health education, awareness and outreach focused on prevention.
Treatment and support for people involved in the justice system.
Education and engagement with young people.
The application for Opioid Response Community Grants is open Jan. 31 – July 18. Find more information about the program, application and more on the FAQ page. Grant funding comes from the opioid settlement as a part of the Opioid Response Initiative.

HOUSING GRANTS 2024/2025

Housing grants focus on providing funds to repair and retrofit houses for individuals who meet certain criteria. These grant programs are not the same as benefits given to individuals to cover housing costs such as rent or mortgage payments. Many of these grants go to public housing agencies as well as non-profit organizations that focus on providing assistance to those in need of safe, clean housing. Some grants provide funding to retrofit housing with energy saving technologies. Some grants help organizations who work with individuals to rehabilitate existing dwellings or build new ones at a price lower than the existing market price. United States Nationwide Financing Small Business Cash Advance and Small Business Loans (SBA).

Business working capital: These are loans between $50,000 and $350,000 for two-year businesses.

The Differences Between an SBA Loan and Conventional Business Loan

MINORITY RESEARCH GRANT PROGRAM

The CMS Office of Minority Health administers the Minority Research Grant Program (MRGP). The purpose of the grant program is to support researchers at minority serving institutions that are exploring how CMS can better meet the health care needs of racial and ethnic minority groups, people with disabilities, members of the le***an, gay, bisexual, transgender, and q***r (LGBTQ+) community, individuals with limited English proficiency, individuals residing in rural areas, and individuals adversely affected by persistent poverty or inequality.

The 2023 MRGP Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is now open. If you are a researcher at one of the eligible minority-serving institutions, you could receive up to $333,000 to fund your health equity research.
