AKP Phnom Penh, June 14, 2026 --

Cambodia highlighted its rich cultural heritage, tourism potential, and commitment to international philanthropy at the 6th Asia Festival held Sunday in the Bulgarian capital of Sofia.

Speaking at a press conference hosted at the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) headquarters, Cambodian Ambassador to Bulgaria H.E. Dr. Chea Chanboribo emphasised the Kingdom's growing participation in the annual event, marking the country’s second consecutive appearance under the current diplomatic mission.

"Cambodia is proud to promote its culture, civilisation, arts, traditions, and tourism potential to the Bulgarian public and international friends," the Ambassador said during the press briefing.

In line with the festival's charitable mission, H.E. Dr. Chea Chanboribo announced that proceeds from the sale of Cambodian products at the event would be donated to a local foundation supporting children battling cancer.

The Cambodian pavilion drew significant interest from attendees, featuring promotional videos that highlighted the Southeast Asian nation's economic development and tourism sectors.

A major highlight of the cultural programme featured musical performances by young Cambodian talents Lita and Vathana, the children of Hong Angkearbosp, First Secretary of the Cambodian Embassy in Bulgaria. The duo performed the traditional Cambodian song "Phnom Penh" alongside the classic Indonesian melody "Bengawan Solo," earning warm applause from diplomats and festival visitors.

"This demonstrates how the younger generation is preserving our national cultural heritage and acting as cultural ambassadors on the international stage," the diplomatic mission noted in a statement.

The festival also featured cross-cultural exchanges, including an interactive martial arts demonstration where the South Korean Ambassador to Bulgaria invited the Cambodian envoy to participate in a traditional Taekwondo board-breaking exhibition.

The Cambodian Ambassador successfully completed the challenge, later reflecting that sports and culture serve as highly effective tools for building mutual understanding and fostering bilateral friendships.

Energy Minister Highlights Renewables and Regional Connectivity as Key to Cambodia’s Resilience.

AKP Phnom Penh, June 12, 2026 --

Cambodia is strengthening its energy resilience and accelerating its transition toward renewable energy to mitigate the impact of rising global fuel prices, according to H.E. Keo Rottanak, Minister of Mines and Energy, in a recent interview with Channel News Asia (CNA).

Speaking to Singapore-based CNA, H.E. Keo Rottanak said Cambodia remains vulnerable to external market disruptions, particularly sharp increases in international oil and gas prices that have affected diesel, petrol, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), placing pressure on households and the broader economy.

“We are very exposed to this external shock, and that has raised prices for diesel, petrol, and even LPG prices. That has adverse impacts for our economy and households,” he said.

To cushion these effects, the Royal Government has introduced measures to reduce costs for consumers and businesses. According to the minister, Cambodia has lowered import tariffs and duties on oil and gas products to prevent global price increases from being fully passed on to domestic markets.

The government has also eliminated import duties on selected electrical appliances, including electric cookstoves, to encourage households to shift away from gas consumption.

Despite global energy volatility, Cambodia has managed to maintain electricity prices at near pre-COVID-19 levels, supported by a growing share of renewable energy in the country’s power mix.

H.E. Keo Rottanak noted that renewable sources, particularly hydropower and solar energy, now account for approximately 64 percent of Cambodia’s installed electricity generation capacity, already surpassing ASEAN’s regional target of 45 percent renewable energy by 2030.

Cambodia is aiming to increase this figure to at least 70 percent by 2030.

He said expanding renewable energy would support Cambodia’s long-term sustainable development goals by reducing carbon emissions while helping lower energy costs for households and industries.

Looking beyond national efforts, the Minister highlighted Cambodia’s support for deeper regional energy integration through the ASEAN Power Grid initiative.

He noted that Cambodia is working closely with ASEAN partners, including Singapore, to advance cross-border electricity connectivity and facilitate the transfer of clean energy across the region.

Cambodia currently imports electricity from neighbouring countries, including hydropower from Laos and up to 250 megawatts of electricity from Viet Nam during peak demand periods.

The Minister stressed that regional interconnection has become an important component of Cambodia’s energy security strategy.

“Resilience is one of the pillars of our energy policy, and we see that a resilient domestic grid is enhanced when we have interconnection,” he said.

Reflecting on Cambodia’s energy transition, H.E. Keo Rottanak noted that the country previously depended almost entirely on imported diesel and heavy fuel oil for electricity generation but has since made significant progress toward cleaner and more diversified energy sources.

“This is one of the reasons why Cambodia is standing strong against this global shock in terms of electricity generation and consumption,” underlined H.E. Minister.

Cambodia’s Exports Rise 19% to US$14 Billion in First Five Months of 2026.

AKP Phnom Penh, June 11, 2026 -- Cambodia’s exports continued to show strong momentum in the first five months of 2026, reaching US$14.04 billion, up 19 percent from US$11.8 billion during the same period last year, according to a report released by the General Department of Customs and Excise of Cambodia (GDCE) on June 10.

The United States remained Cambodia’s largest export market, accounting for US$5.73 billion in shipments, or more than 40 percent of the country’s total exports.

Vietnam ranked second, importing Cambodian goods worth US$2.32 billion, followed by China at US$753.37 million.

Japan and Canada also remained important destinations, receiving exports valued at US$760.3 million and US$498.02 million respectively.

Mr. Thong Mengdavid, Deputy Director of the China-ASEAN Studies Centre at the Cambodia University of Technology and Science, said the figures demonstrate the resilience of Cambodia’s export sector despite ongoing global economic and security uncertainties.

“Cambodia’s expanding integration into international markets thanks to trade agreements such as the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and bilateral free trade agreements with China, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates,” he said.

He also highlighted the country’s gradual diversification beyond traditional garment exports into agricultural products and higher value-added industries, alongside continued strong demand from the U.S. market.

The latest trade figures are consistent with the World Bank’s June 2026 economic update, which described Cambodia’s economy as resilient amid external challenges.

The institution reported that goods exports grew by 17.7 percent in the first quarter of 2026 and projected economic growth of 3.9 percent this year, rising to 4.9 percent in 2027.

Cambodia’s imports totalled US$16.03 billion during the January–May period, an increase of 18.9 percent year-on-year.

AKP Phnom Penh, June 10, 2026

Cambodia’s Ambassador to Bulgaria emphasised the vital role of cultural diplomacy and humanitarian cooperation during a press conference on Wednesday at the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) headquarters, previewing the upcoming sixth edition of the Asian Festival.

Organised this year by the Indonesian Embassy in Bulgaria, the festival serves as a premier platform to showcase Asian culture, traditions, and tourism potential to the Bulgarian public and the wider international community.

Speaking at the briefing, the Cambodian Ambassador H.E. Dr. Chea Chanboribo noted that this marks Cambodia's second participation under their leadership, underscoring how the event deepens mutual understanding, friendship, and cooperation between Asian nations and Bulgaria.

"The Cambodian pavilion will showcase an array of cultural products and promotional materials reflecting Cambodia's rich history, heritage, and modern potential," the Ambassador stated. Visitors to the pavilion can experience traditional Cambodian desserts, coffee, and tea, and learn about the Krama – the hand-woven Khmer scarf that serves as a proud symbol of national identity.

Beyond celebrating heritage, the Kingdom's participation carries a strong philanthropic mission. The Ambassador announced that all proceeds generated from the sale of Cambodian products at the pavilion will be donated to a local Bulgarian foundation supporting children battling cancer.

"While this is a modest contribution, it is offered with deep love, solidarity, and a spirit of humanitarian compassion," the Ambassador said, concluding that such cultural exchanges and cooperation lay the crucial groundwork for enduring global peace and sustainable development.

AKP Phnom Penh, June 10, 2026

Cambodia is preparing to welcome international delegates, Girl Guide and Girl Scout leaders, young women leaders, supporters, and partners from around the world to Siem Reap for the 39th WAGGGS World Conference and the 42nd Annual Meeting of The Olave Baden-Powell Society (OB-PS), scheduled to take place from June 14 to 19, 2026.

According to a press announcement issued by the Girl Guides Association of Cambodia (GGAC), the events are organised by the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) and The Olave Baden-Powell Society (OB-PS), with coordination and support from Cambodia as the host country.

Hosting the two global gatherings is regarded as both an honour and a source of national pride for Cambodia, reflecting the country’s active participation in the international Girl Guiding movement and its commitment to promoting leadership, confidence, social service, and expanded opportunities for girls and young women.

Held under the theme “We See, We Care, We Act,” the events emphasise three key priorities. “We See” focuses on helping young women discover, learn, and prepare for participation in the World Conference; “We Care” highlights support and commitment to advancing the development of girls and young women; and “We Act” encourages global delegates to collaborate in shaping future directions and positive change.

Participants will also have the opportunity to experience Siem Reap-Angkor, Cambodia’s cultural heritage, and traditional values. A special Cambodia Night programme will feature Khmer arts, cuisine, traditions, and cultural performances aimed at strengthening friendship and international understanding.
