In earlier times, Ostend was nothing more than a small village built on the east-end (Dutch: oost-einde) of an island (originally called Testerep) between the North Sea and a beach lake. Although small, the village rose to the status of "town" around 1265 when the inhabitants were allowed to hold a market and to build a market hall. D-G, Dienst Vreemdelingenzaken, Freddy Roosemont was vorige week op missie naar om de aandacht te vestigen op de dreiging van illegale prostitutie door Nigerianen in . Ik ging met blessings_mosugu in gesprek op het ‘Village Square Africa’ van News Central TV om de missie en de stand van zaken te beoordelen. Was de heer Roosemont op een missie van of van ? Hier zijn mijn gedachten.

D-G, Belgian Immigration Department, Freddy Roosemont was on a mission to Nigeria last week to draw attention to the menace of illegal prostitution by Nigerians in Belgium. I sat down with Blessings Mosugu at News Central’s ‘Village Square Africa’ to assess the mission and state of play. Was Mr Roosemont on a mission of information campaign or scaremongering? Here are my thoughts.

Ostend main beach is fully occupied today. Visitors are advised to seek their fun in other locations to enable an optimal spread of human contact. The central message is social distancing especially in the beaches. Let’s stay safe as we enjoy the summer!

Het wordt een drukke dag vandaag in Oostende. De drie stranden in het centrum van de stad waarvoor je je op voorhand moet aanmelden, zijn zo goed als volzet. Stad Oostende roept mensen op hun bezoek goed te plannen en meteen naar de andere, minder drukke stranden te komen.

Today we put Ostend, Belgium in the spotlight! 🇧🇪️ Often known as the city at the sea 🏖️, Ostend has so much more to offer! Did you know that the ship Mercator was there?! ⛵ It was used for several crusades and sailing events, and it even brought back the remains of Father Damien to Belgium in 1936. Or that Michael Jackson asked to have his room at the Thermae Palace painted in pink in 1997? We also recommend checking out the Fort Napoleon, Ostend, the Japanese Garden 🌺🌸 and the sand sculpture festival in the summer ☀️!
