For centuries, Ghent's three medieval towers ruled the skyline. Then a fourth tower appeared—64 metres high and built entirely in concrete." 📚✨

In this fascinating blog post, Frederic Hooft, interior designer and passionate advocate of post-war Belgian design, tells the remarkable story of Henry van de Velde's Booktower.

Today, the Booktower is celebrated as a modernist masterpiece, but its road to recognition was anything but smooth. From resistance and wartime disruption to neglect and an award-winning restoration, this architectural icon has had quite a journey.

Discover how Van de Velde's bold vision transformed Ghent's skyline forever—and why the Booktower is more beautiful today than ever before.
