Our aim is to raise awareness, encourage registered citizens to support regularisation and to take action in this humanitarian crisis. The aim of this page is to support the struggle of the l'Union des Sans-Papiers pour la régularisation (USPR) in Brussels. These people have been living in Belgium for 5, 10 and sometimes more than 20 years. They work alongside Belgians with papers and oftentimes f

or them, but due to their legal situation they are left in precarious living conditions. This prevents them from becoming equal members of the Belgian society. Since the unclear regulations in Belgium are laced in a way that systematically exclude undocumented migrants, on 23rd of May, 475 women and men have decided to take the drastic measure of a hunger strike. Their demand is clear, they want the regularisation of all hunger strikers on the basis of clear and permanent criteria, with renewable residency and indefinite working permits. In support of this hunger strike, a group of students and activists have occupied the UFO building of UGent on the 5th July. Due to the urgency of the situation, the UGent Occupation will remain in place to further organise events and actions in the region of Flanders and sensitize the society on the topic of regularisation.
