🇵🇭🤝🇧🇪 Advancing PH–Belgium cooperation on offshore wind and energy transition

Philippine Ambassadors to the Netherlands J. Eduardo Malaya and to Belgium Jaime Victor B. Ledda visited DEME’s Norse Energi, a state-of-the-art offshore installation vessel at the Port of Vlissingen, the Netherlands. DEME is a global leader in offshore energy, marine infrastructure, and dredging.

The visit builds on earlier PTIC Brussels engagement with DEME on infrastructure and potential cooperation in the Philippines’ emerging offshore wind sector.

The Philippines has an estimated 3.3 GW offshore wind potential, equivalent to around 4 nuclear power plants, representing a major opportunity to strengthen energy security and accelerate the country’s energy transition.

If developed, this scale of clean energy capacity could deliver significant social, public good, and economic benefits, including a major opportunity to strengthen energy security, support industrial growth, and accelerate the country’s energy transition.

DEME currently employs around 400 Filipino seafarers across its global fleet, including crew aboard Norse Energi, highlighting the strong role of Filipino maritime professionals in global offshore energy operations. The visit underscores growing PH–EU alignment on renewable energy, maritime cooperation, and sustainable investment opportunities.

🇵🇭🌊 Did you know?

The Philippines has an estimated 3.3 GW offshore wind potential—roughly equivalent to 4 nuclear reactors.

This clean energy capacity could help power millions of homes, support industries, create jobs, attract investments, and strengthen the country's energy security for generations to come.

Offshore wind isn't just about electricity—it's about building a more sustainable and competitive Philippines. ⚡🌱

🇵🇭🤝🇪🇺 Strengthening ASEAN–EU economic ties!

The Philippines participated in the ASEAN–EU Business Forum 2026, themed “Trade at a Crossroads: EU–ASEAN FTAs as a Strategic Response to Global Tariff Shifts,” held on 4 June 2026 in Brussels.

Ambassador Jaime Victor Ledda representing the Philippines as ASEAN Chair, served as a panelist together with Mr. Wouter Beke, EU MEP and Chair of the Parliament’s relations with ASEAN (DASE) and H.E. Mr. Andrew Jacobs, former EU Ambassador and Advisory Board member of ASEANcham EU. Trade Counsellor Magnolia Misolas-Ashley of the Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC) Brussels delivered a presentation on “Strengthening EU–ASEAN Economic Ties: Focus on the Philippines,” highlighting massive renewable energy potential (>200 GW), the world’s first AI-Native Economic Security Zone, and major policy reforms, among others.

A big thank you to ASEANcham-EU, the Thai Embassy, and all partners for this meaningful platform.

The future of EU–Philippines partnership is bright — in green energy, advanced technology, semiconductors, and sustainable industries.

🇵🇭 Negotiating FTAs is only half the battle. The real success lies in ensuring businesses actually use the preferences.

On May 27, we attended the official launch of the EFTA Free Trade Dashboard at EFTA House in Brussels — a powerful new tool for monitoring preference utilization across FTAs.

We see the EFTA Dashboard as a great inspiration for the Philippines. As we prepare for the PH-EU FTA, we are looking at ways to bring the Philippine FTA Portal to the next level — by adding robust utilization monitoring, better analytics, and stronger support tools for our exporters and SMEs.

Excited to apply these global best practices to help Filipino businesses maximize opportunities under our FTAs! 💼🌍

🇵🇭 Making History! First Philippine Participation at

Together with BOI, and DOST, proudly representing the Philippines at the 2026 EUBCE High-Level SAF Roundtable in The Hague on 18 May, wearing a bright terno while delivering our national remarks.

We highlighted the Philippines’ vast agricultural biomass potential — especially coconut waste — as a promising feedstock for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).
From Philippine fields to global skies, we are ready to contribute to the global sustainable aviation transition.

Grateful for the insightful discussions with leaders from IATA, IEA, Neste, SkyNRG, KLM, Boeing, European Commission. This marks a significant milestone as we open new doors for collaboration and investment in the bioeconomy and SAF.
