🇵🇭🤝🇧🇪 Advancing PH–Belgium cooperation on offshore wind and energy transition
Philippine Ambassadors to the Netherlands J. Eduardo Malaya and to Belgium Jaime Victor B. Ledda visited DEME’s Norse Energi, a state-of-the-art offshore installation vessel at the Port of Vlissingen, the Netherlands. DEME is a global leader in offshore energy, marine infrastructure, and dredging.
The visit builds on earlier PTIC Brussels engagement with DEME on infrastructure and potential cooperation in the Philippines’ emerging offshore wind sector.
The Philippines has an estimated 3.3 GW offshore wind potential, equivalent to around 4 nuclear power plants, representing a major opportunity to strengthen energy security and accelerate the country’s energy transition.
If developed, this scale of clean energy capacity could deliver significant social, public good, and economic benefits, including a major opportunity to strengthen energy security, support industrial growth, and accelerate the country’s energy transition.
DEME currently employs around 400 Filipino seafarers across its global fleet, including crew aboard Norse Energi, highlighting the strong role of Filipino maritime professionals in global offshore energy operations. The visit underscores growing PH–EU alignment on renewable energy, maritime cooperation, and sustainable investment opportunities.
