🚰Water resilience has finally become a strategic priority for the for the European Union, but needs to be placed much higher on the 🇪🇺EU agenda!

⚠️ EESC - European Economic and Social Committee calls for a strong and comprehensive European Water Resilience Strategy, where prevention and preparedness should become the main guiding principles.

A key recommendation is to improve governance and coordination, with stronger cross-border cooperation.

The EESC opinion on the topic (link.europa.eu/YHNT8j) also proposes introducing a in EU policymaking so that new legislation in sectors such as agriculture, energy, industry and transport is assessed for its impact on water resources.

It also recommends establishing a hierarchy that prioritises essential human needs, ecosystem protection and sustainable economic activities, and encourages wider use of measures, water reuse, nature-based solutions and sustainable agricultural practices.

🌱 The European Commission proposes updates/targeted revision to rules, to fix implementation issues, simplify procedures & cut administrative burden, while keeping high standards.

The related EESC - European Economic and Social Committee opinion (link.europa.eu/cQXqHd), for which I was the rapporteur, supports the Commission’s proposal and recommends swift adoption to provide simplification and legal security for business operators and stakeholders in the field of organic production, labelling, certification and trade.
