On 10 June 2026, His Excellency Dato’ Mohd Khalid Abbasi Abdul Razak, Ambassador of Malaysia to Belgium, Luxembourg, and the European Union, together with fellow ASEAN Ambassadors accredited to Luxembourg, attended a working lunch hosted by His Excellency Xavier Bettel, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Luxembourg.

During the luncheon, His Excellency Bettel reaffirmed Luxembourg’s strong commitment to strengthening relations with ASEAN, describing the region as an increasingly important strategic partner for Europe.

Discussions focused on the growing ASEAN-EU partnership, regional and international developments, and opportunities to further deepen cooperation across political, economic, and people-to-people dimensions.

During the exchange, His Excellency Dato’ Mohd Khalid expressed appreciation for Luxembourg’s continued engagement with ASEAN and exchanged views on developments in Palestine, underscoring Malaysia’s support for international law, humanitarian principles, and efforts towards achieving a just and lasting peace.

On 10 June 2026, His Excellency Dato’ Mohd Khalid Abbasi Abdul Razak, Ambassador of Malaysia to Belgium, Luxembourg, and the European Union, participated in ASEAN Day at Nexus Luxembourg 2026.

The event was officiated by His Excellency Luc Frieden, Prime Minister of Luxembourg, alongside Ms. Lydie Polfer, Mayor of Luxembourg City, and Mr. Carlo Thelen, Director General of the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce.

Held in conjunction with Nexus Luxembourg 2026, a leading technology and innovation platform, the event brought together representatives from governments, financial institutions, investors, and the private sector to explore opportunities for deeper cooperation between ASEAN, Luxembourg, and the European Union.

Discussions focused on emerging areas such as artificial intelligence, digital transformation, digital sovereignty, and innovation-driven growth.

The programme provided a valuable platform for Malaysia and fellow ASEAN Member States to engage with key stakeholders, strengthen networks, and promote ASEAN as a dynamic and increasingly important economic partner.

On 9 June 2026, His Excellency Dato’ Mohd Khalid Abbasi Abdul Razak, Ambassador of Malaysia to Belgium, Luxembourg, and the European Union, hosted a working lunch with Ms. Véronique Dockendorf, Director-General for Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade of Luxembourg.

Ms. Dockendorf was accompanied by Mr. Sam Schreiner, Director for Asia; Mr. Eric Müller, Deputy Director for International and EU Trade; and Mr. David Goebbels, Deputy Director for Foreign Trade and Investment Promotion. His Excellency was accompanied by Ms. Ku Hasanah Ku Abdullah, Second Secretary.

Both sides exchanged views on Malaysia-Luxembourg bilateral relations, as well as regional and international issues, including developments in Palestine and Iran, and discussed opportunities to enhance bilateral cooperation.

The productive discussions reflected the positive trajectory of Malaysia-Luxembourg relations and the shared commitment to further strengthening cooperation at both the bilateral and multilateral levels.

On 15 May 2026, His Excellency Dato’ Mohd Khalid Abbasi Abdul Razak, Ambassador of Malaysia to Belgium, Luxembourg and the European Union (HOM) attended the third ASEAN Brussels Committee (ABC) Meeting of the year under the Chairmanship of Thailand.

The meeting exchanged updates on ASEAN-EU relations, ASEAN-Luxembourg engagement, as well as recent developments under the current ASEAN Chairmanship of the Philippines.

Discussions also focused on ways ASEAN could further strengthen its relations with Belgium and Luxembourg. The meeting reviewed activities carried out under Thailand’s Chairmanship and discussed upcoming initiatives and engagements.

His Excellency updated the meeting on Malaysia’s activities in bridging and further enhancing the EU, Belgium and Luxembourg relations in all spheres.

On 13 May 2026, His Excellency Dato’ Mohd Khalid Abbasi Abdul Razak, Ambassador of Malaysia to Belgium, Luxembourg and the European Union, participated as a speaker at the Track 1.5 Dialogue on the EU’s Engagement in the Indo-Pacific and EU-ASEAN Relations.

During the session, His Excellency highlighted Malaysia’s key achievements during its ASEAN Chairmanship 2025 under the theme “Inclusivity and Sustainability,” marking Malaysia’s fifth time leading ASEAN following its previous chairmanships in 1977, 1997, 2005, and 2015.

His Excellency also underscored the importance of ASEAN and the EU as trusted partners, particularly at a critical moment for ASEAN and the wider international community.

Discussions focused on evolving priorities across recent ASEAN chairmanships, areas of convergence and divergence in EU-ASEAN expectations, and practical pathways to strengthen cooperation before 2027.

The session marked a valuable exchange on advancing partnership, regional stability, and shared prosperity in the Indo-Pacific.

In conjunction with Europe Day celebrations held on 9 May 2026 in Brussels, the ASEAN Brussels Committee (ABC) participated with a dedicated booth at the European External Action Service (EEAS), showcasing the rich cultural diversity and uniqueness of ASEAN Member States to the public.

All ASEAN Member States took part in promoting ASEAN and highlighting their respective cultural heritage and traditions. Representing Malaysia, the Embassy of Malaysia in Brussels brought visitors a hands-on experience of traditional batik colouring, allowing participants to explore and appreciate one of Malaysia’s most iconic cultural arts.

The Embassy also served Malaysia’s renowned curry puffs to visitors, offering a taste of Malaysian hospitality and cuisine to the multinational crowd attending the event.

The event served as an excellent platform to promote ASEAN and Malaysia to the international community in Brussels, as the European Union institutions opened their doors to the public in celebration of Europe Day.
