We are proud to share that AlpTextyles, an Interreg Alpine Space project, has been selected as a finalist for the prestigious REGIOSTARS Awards 2026 in the category“𝗔 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲”, which recognizes outstanding projects driving the green transition and sustainable regional development across Europe.
For centuries, Alpine communities produced textiles using local wool, flax and natural dyes, creating circular systems deeply rooted in local knowledge and resources. Today, AlpTextyles is bringing this heritage into the future by reconnecting farmers, craftspeople, designers, SMEs and research organizations across six Alpine countries to rebuild sustainable, circular and innovative textile value chains.
Through collaboration among 12 partner organizations, the project has fostered innovation, regional development, job creation and the preservation of Alpine cultural heritage, demonstrating how traditional know-how can become a driver for a greener and more resilient economy. Lombardy Region is among the project partners contributing to this transnational success story.
Being selected among the 𝟮𝟱 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝟮𝟳𝟰 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 is a remarkable European recognition and highlights the growing importance of circular and place-based solutions in shaping the future of our regions.

🚀 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗹𝗽𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀!
After a competitive selection process, the five finalists of 𝗣𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 have been chosen.
These inspiring youth-led projects tackle some of the most important challenges facing Alpine regions today:

We proudly announce that the SmartCommunity (https://www.alpine-space.eu/project/smartcommunity/) project has beenselected for the REGIOSTARS Awards, inthe "A connected Europe" category.
Smart Community is an Interreg Alpine Space Project, and over the past three years it involved six alpine countries: Slovenia, Austria, France, Germany, Italy and Switzerland, finding practical, commnity led solutions to tackle the digital divide between rural and urban areas.
So the main goal of Smartcommunity was to make digital transformation work through a bottom-up approach.
More concretely, this meant:
• 𝗦𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗮: blockchain traceability connecting more than 100 local farmers directly with consumers.
• 𝗚𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆: local citizen apps and interactive community hubs helping bridge the digital gap.
• 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: integrated rural mobility centres addressing territorial isolation.
• 𝗔𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮: a shared LoRaWAN sensor network across 15 Tyrolean municipalities to monitor municipal energy use in real time.
• 𝗜𝘁𝗮𝗹𝘆: AI “digital humans” and VR supporting accessibility and sustainable eco-tourism in Gran Paradiso National Park.
𝗔𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻: SMART-ALPS.EU, a 100% open-source digital ecosystem providing self-assessment and community-building tools
But SmartCommunity goes beyond technology. The co-created policy recommendations have also been integrated into the 𝗘𝗨𝗦𝗔𝗟𝗣 𝗺𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼-𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆, helping turn local experimentation into a blueprint for durable, community-led regional development.

🌊🏔️ What becomes possible when regions work together?

𝗢𝗻 𝟭𝟬-𝟭𝟭 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿, representatives of the 𝗘𝗨𝗦𝗔𝗟𝗣 𝗘𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗕𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 (𝗘𝗕) 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 (𝗕𝗔𝗚𝗟) gathered in Munich in the Bavarian State Ministry of the Environment and Consumer Protection for the final meeting under the Bavarian Presidency to advance key strategic priorities for the Alpine macro-region 🤝

Discussions focused on key operational tools, including the Steering Package and the implementation of a dedicated monitoring tool to streamline strategic decision-making. Highlighting this strategic progress, the meeting marked the technical endorsement of the Lindau Declaration and the Mission Notes, establishing a clear joint direction for future actions 🚀

Looking ahead, participants laid the groundwork for the upcoming 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺 ( https://alpine-region.eu/about/presidency/eusalp-annual-forum-2026) and exchanged early perspectives on preparations for the French Presidency in 2027, ensuring seamless strategic continuity for EUSALP initiatives ✅

Special attention was also given to youth participation, including updates from the EUSALP Youth Council and discussions on strengthening the involvement of younger generations in the future development of Alpine cooperation ⛰️

The meetings reaffirmed the shared commitment of EUSALP members to fostering cooperation, enhancing the impact of macro-regional governance, and addressing common challenges through joint action across the Alpine Region !

Representing seven countries and 48 regions, EUSALP provides a unique framework for cooperation across borders. Within this framework, Youth Council members contribute through policy recommendations, events and participation in EUSALP governance structures, ensuring that the concerns and aspirations of younger generations are heard.
From climate change and water management to civic engagement and democratic participation, 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗹𝗽𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗼𝘄.

🌟 SmartCommUnity is a REGIOSTARS finalist — and we need your vote! 🗳️

What does a smarter, greener and more connected future look like for Europe’s rural and mountain communities?

Over the past three years, SmartCommUnity, an Interreg Alpine Space project, has brought together partners across six Alpine countries — Slovenia, Austria, France, Germany, Italy and Switzerland — to tackle the rural-urban digital divide through practical, community-led solutions.
