Opening session of the Working Conference on the Reactionary International in Brussels (12-13th June) introduced by David Adler (Progressive International general secretary), Marga Ferré (transform! europe president) and Boris Kanzleiter (head of the RLS Europe office).

The aim for this conference is to build a common episthemologic ground for all the fighters against the far-right, in the fields where it’s the most powerful across the world: technologies, finance, information, electoral systems, security, corporate power. We work these two days together to frame the moment and investigate what is at stake in the far-right victories. We also discuss what can be done about it.

The workshops are built to go straight to the point:

1) what do you know from your experience and work that you think the progressive forces should know so that we can progress

2) what do you know that the progressive forces know but we need to do a better job in our investigations

3) what are the tools that you’ve seen that we could use to do the work better and face the methodological challenges

On the 12th and 13th June delegates from around the world will gather in Brussels to track, expose, anticipate, and — if the work begun in Belgium bears fruit — dismantle the Reactionary International. ✊

⬅️ Shift to the Left? The Formation of Denmark’s New Government

Following the inconclusive March parliamentary elections, Denmark emerged from two months of political deadlock with a new government, featuring a majority of women for the first time. Supported by the left, the four-party centre-left coalition aims for historic agricultural reforms and social measures, while maintaining a firm, established stance on security and geopolitics.

While the new executive leans further left than its predecessor, a look below the surface reveals deep political tensions:

🌱 The Green & Social Wins: Backed by the parliamentary power of the Red-Green Alliance and The Alternative, the government is pushing radical climate policies. Plans include an 85% fossil fuel reduction by 2035, massive cuts to pig farming, free public dental care, and free transport for under-22s.
⚠️ The Catch: Simultaneously, tax policies continue to favor the wealthy. More critically, the government remains strictly aligned with rapid rearmament, NATO, and the EU "core area."
🇵🇸 The Global Blindspot: During negotiations, the Social Democrats' rigid stance against recognizing Palestinian statehood exposed a sharp rightward shift in Danish geopolitics—exposing a glaring disconnect between progressive domestic policy and conservative global alignment.

True systemic change requires pushing past these compromises.

⏳ The questions raised in its pages still remain relevant and strategic.

❓ How can the Left rebuild broad social majorities?
❓ Why are working-class communities increasingly disengaging from politics?
❓ How can we overcome fragmentation and build collective power?

💬 As Jacopo Custodi argues in the volume, the challenge is not simply that parts of the working class have shifted to the right. More often, they have withdrawn from politics altogether.

📊 In Italy's 2024 European elections, more than 75% of people with low economic status did not vote. This points to a deeper crisis: not only electoral realignment, but political disengagement.

⚠️ “If the right has been able to develop its culture-based class narrative, this is precisely because left-wing class politics has retreated.”

🔍 Avoiding the right's framing is necessary. Ignoring class dealignment is not.

🤝 Reconnecting class politics, social justice, and democratic participation remains one of the most urgent tasks for the Left today.

In “𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐊𝐞𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐮𝐩 𝐄𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭: 𝐒𝐰𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐧’𝐬 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐡 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐍𝐞𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐎,” 𝐸𝑟𝑖𝑘 𝐿𝑖𝑛𝑑𝑚𝑎𝑛 𝑀𝑎𝑡𝑎, Secretary at the Centre for Marxist Social Studies (CMS - Centrum för marxistiska samhällsstudier) in Stockholm, examines:
