🗓 Frist for skriftlige innspill: 9. juni 2026

Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming students from Østfold University College (Innovation and Project Management) to Brussels 🇪🇺

Over two days, the group gained hands-on insight into how the EU system operates in practice. The programme included visits to key institutions both on the European and local levels, such as the European Parliament and HUB Brussels, as well as an introduction to EU policymaking.

Participants also met with Linnea Andersson, who works with the ITRE Committee for MEP Emma Wiesner (Centre Party, Sweden) in the European Parliament, and received expert insights from the Research Council of Norway (Karin Totland) and SINTEF (Knut Samdal). In addition, the group visited Norway House, where they met with Norway’s delegations to NATO and the EU.
The study visit provided a valuable link between theory and practice, offering perspectives on how European cooperation shapes regional development and innovation.

Thank you for the visit – we look forward to staying in touch!

This week we had the pleasure of welcoming participants from the Romerike Trainee programme / Lillestrøm municipality to Brussels for a three-day study visit in Brussels!

The programme aimed to strengthen participants’ understanding of European politics, regulatory frameworks, and project opportunities relevant to the municipal sector. Key themes included circular economy, bioeconomy, water resilience, and civil preparedness, all seen through a European lens.

Over the course of the visit, the trainees and their supervisors:

🇪🇺 Gained insights into the EU’s current agenda, including developments under the European Green Deal and related to competetiveness
💧 Explored the EU strategy on Water Resilience and opportunities for European project collaboration
🔄 Learned how circular economy policies are moving from ambition to implementation
🤝 Deepened their understanding of Norway–EU relations and how EU policies impact Norwegian municipalities
🏛️ Visited key institutions, including the European Parliament and the Mission of Norway to the EU
🌍 Discussed civil preparedness in a broader European and geopolitical context

💡 The study visit offered participants valuable insights and a stronger understanding of how to navigate the European landscape in their future roles within the public sector.

A big thank you to all speakers and participants for their engagement – we look forward to staying in touch and continuing the dialogue.

This week, arts and culture set the agenda:

We had the pleasure of welcoming Fredrikstad municipality from Norway together with partners from Rivne City Council and City of Malmö to discuss a new project proposal under the EU’s Creative Europe programme.

The project proposal, Good Ancestors – Arts and Culture as Drivers of Change (GAACC), explores how arts and culture can strengthen democracy, free expression, and civic engagement across Europe. At its core lies a simple but powerful question: Are we good ancestors?

The partners are developing a cooperation project that will:
🎭Use arts and culture to engage citizens in dialogue about the future of Europe
🌍Strengthen democratic values through co-creation, workshops, and cultural activities
🤝Connect cities and artists across borders to share ideas, methods, and artistic expressions

The project builds on experiences from the §112 festival in Fredrikstad and aims to scale this approach to a European level through collaboration between cities, artists, and citizens.

💡Through interdisciplinary productions, public debates, and participatory formats, the project seeks to create lasting engagement and contribute to a more inclusive, sustainable, and democratic Europe.

We look forward to following the development of this exciting initiative and to continued collaboration across regions and countries.
