🇦🇱 Yesterday, as protests in entered their 101st consecutive day, the images reaching us became deeply worrying. Detentions increased, the police response appeared disproportionately harsh, and people without visible uniforms were seen intervening, raising serious questions over whether they were police officers or individuals acting outside any clear chain of accountability.
This follows last week’s blocking and restriction of social media accounts linked to the protests, a further concern for freedom of expression and access to information.

Public procurement and subsidies should give priority to products made in Europe. Christophe Grudler’s proposals for the Industrial Accelerator Act would progressively raise European and low-carbon content requirements in strategic sectors, while ensuring that access for non-EU countries is based on reciprocity.

We fully support this approach. When European taxpayers fund infrastructure, clean technologies or industrial investment, that spending should generate demand for European factories, strengthen our value chains and create quality jobs across our regions.

Europe thrives through openness and trade — backed by reciprocity, resilience and the industrial capacity to produce the technologies and materials our future depends on.

Moscow’s threats of retaliation against Budapest following this decision reveal the Kremlin regime’s frustration: its propaganda and influence networks no longer have an easy ride. The “Authoritarian International” is rallying around ’s victory in .

Europe must respond with the same unity. The great political task of the coming years is to build a confident democratic centre: anchored in clear values, attentive to people’s concerns and capable of delivering credible solutions.

Our differences as democrats are smaller than the threat posed by forces that erode liberal democracy, fuel nationalism, admire Putin’s model and weaken Europe. Our answer must be unity, responsibility and the courage to govern the complexity of our time.

This banner was spotted during the protests in , which have now continued for months. Its warning deserves attention. Prime Minister should be careful not to go down the path we have seen elsewhere in the region, including under President : attacking critics or those asking legitimate questions is no substitute for clear answers on the rule of law, transparency and democratic standards. Albania and are both countries we want to welcome into the European Union with open arms. But accession requires a firm and lasting commitment to the rule of law, transparency and fundamental freedoms. These principles must be upheld consistently and impartially — never weakened to accommodate particular political or economic interests.
