This week reinforced the values of the U.S.-Belgium relationship—innovation, partnership, and shared commitment to our collective security and prosperity:
▪️Visited CastingPar - Settas in Charleroi to witness firsthand how Belgian titanium casting excellence contributes to the Boeing supply chain and directly supports U.S. Navy and Air Force missions.🛡️✈️
▪️Engaged with VOKA Mechelen–Kempen business leaders to discuss economic opportunities and promote our “Building Bridges to the USA” initiative launching fall 2026. 🤝💼
▪️Joined Minister Simonet to discuss how we can better support small businesses and entrepreneurs—the backbone of our economies, from cutting red tape to supporting innovation. 🇺🇸🇧🇪
▪️Met with Dr. Emile Boulpaep to learn about the Belgian American Educational Foundation's remarkable legacy of supporting over 5,000 scholars since 1920. 📚🎓

Ambassador Bill White: “Very honored to attend the F-35 Horizontal Tail Plane Roll Out Ceremony, alongside Prime Minister De Wever, Defense Minister Francken, and Walloon Minister President Dolimont. Belgium's BeLightning initiative—Sabca, Asco Industries, and Sonaca Group—is producing critical components for the F-35, creating 200+ jobs and generating significant revenue for Belgian industry. We're committed to bringing even more defense production to Belgium.” 🇺🇸🇧🇪

Ambassador Bill White: "In Flanders Field American Cemetery, 368 American service members rest in eternal peace. This is a battlefield cemetery—the fighting was literally on this very spot in 1918. Let us never forget that the freedoms we enjoy today were won by Americans who crossed an ocean to fight for people they had never met, in a land they had never seen, for a cause greater than themselves. Their sacrifice was not in vain. Their memory lives on. Our gratitude is eternal.

We were privileged to meet with the Gold Star families Labno and Lewis. It was an honor for Bryan and me to commemorate this solemn day with The Representative of His Majesty the King, Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever, US military representative to NATO Lieutenant General William Taylor, my fellow Ambassadors, Defense Attachés, Mayor Kristof Chanterie, the American Battle Monuments Commission and their team, and the Belgian and American armed forces. Thank you for helping us remember and honor these brave souls."

Ambassador Bill White: "We stand on the shoulders of heroes—those who fought valiantly in World War II. In the hallowed grounds of Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery, 7,992 American service members rest in eternal peace. Many died in the Battle of the Bulge, Hurtgen Forest, and the Battle of Aachen. As America celebrates its 250th anniversary, we honor the soldiers who carried the torch of liberty across an ocean, strengthening both America and the transatlantic alliance we uphold today.

Bryan and I extend our deepest gratitude to The Representative of His Majesty the King, SACEUR General Alexus Grynkevich, Belgian CHOD General Frederik Vansina, my fellow Ambassadors, Defense Attachés, Mayor Jean-Luc Nix, President of Parliament German-speaking community Mrs. Patricia Creutz-Vilvoye, Minister of Education German-speaking community Jerome Franssen, Walloon Minister for Economy Jen-Luc Jeholet, family members, the American Battle Monuments Commission and their team at Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery, and the Belgian and American armed forces for their presence at this solemn commemoration."

Ambassador Bill White: "This morning, Bryan and I had the profound honor of paying tribute to the courageous men and women who sacrificed their lives for our freedom at Ardennes American Cemetery.

Today, we remember that the story of liberation does not end when the guns fall silent. It continues in the hallowed grounds of this sacred place, where 5,311 headstones mark those who died for freedom. Many buried here are pilots and bomber crews from across the European theater.

Walking among those white marble crosses and Stars of David, one cannot help but feel the weight of their sacrifice—young men and women who gave their everything so that we might live in freedom.

I am deeply grateful to The Representative of His Majesty the King, Minister Maxime Prévot, Minister Theo Francken, Minister Bernard Quintin, Minister Mathieu Bihet, General Christopher Donahue, my fellow Ambassadors, Defense Attachés, Mayor Virginie Defrang-Firket, the American Battle Monuments Commission and their team, and the Belgian and American armed forces for joining us in this solemn commemoration."

▪️Stopped by the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp for the pre-opening of the Antony Gormley exhibition together with our friend Patrick Maselis and his daughter Valérie. 🎨
▪️Had a great meeting with Isi Morsel, chairman of the Antwerp World Diamond Centre. 💎
▪️Hosted General Pierre Ciparisse of Belgium Defense’s Cyber Force at Whitlock Hall to discuss advancing our bilateral cooperation on cybersecurity and countering hybrid threats. 💻
▪️Joined Rear Admiral Tanguy Botman, Commander of the Belgian Navy and Aide-de-Camp to His Majesty King Philippe, Captain Olivier Cordon of the Belgian Navy, and His Highness Prince Michel de Ligne together with our teams for a wonderful lunch to discuss naval collaboration. 🇧🇪

Ambassador Bill White: “This Memorial Day weekend, we will pause together with our longstanding Belgian leaders and good friends and American military leaders to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Countless Belgians, like stonemason Yvan Vermote, have worked for decades to honor our nation’s fallen heroes. Yvan carefully restores weathered headstones to preserve the memory of fallen American service members.

As we gather for Memorial Day ceremonies across Belgium this weekend at our three American cemeteries where more than 14,000 are buried, we're grateful for people like Yvan who ensure these brave Americans are never forgotten."
