The arrival of the world’s first trillionaire is not a milestone to celebrate. ❌

It is a symptom of an economic model that allows extraordinary wealth to accumulate at the top while millions struggle with unaffordable housing, rising living costs, food insecurity, and stagnant wages.

The question is not how someone became the world’s first trillionaire. The question is why, in one of the wealthiest periods in human history, so many people are still being left behind. ⚠️

The arrival of the world’s first trillionaire is not a milestone to celebrate. ❌

It is a symptom of an economic model that allows extraordinary wealth to accumulate at the top while millions struggle with unaffordable housing, rising living costs, food insecurity, and stagnant wages.

No one creates trillion dollars. Wealth is generated by workers, public infrastructure, research funded by taxpayers, and the societies that make prosperity possible.

The question is why, in one of the wealthiest periods in human history, so many people are still being left behind.

Democracy does not only weaken in parliaments.

It weakens when women in local politics are harassed, threatened, sexualised and left alone.

It weakens when mayors and councillors are attacked personally instead of politically.

It weakens when women, LGBTQI+ people, women of colour and women with disabilities are pushed away from public life.

Carina Ohlsson’s message at CIVEX was clear: protecting democracy means protecting the people who make it representative.

The European Democracy Shield needs a strong gender perspective.

Who is yet to march this summer? 💛🧡♥️💜💙💚

Save the date(s) and join the marches: in celebration of hard-won visibility and community and in protest of many rights gaps that remain across Europe.✊🏳️‍🌈

Love is not an abstract value.

It is a right.

Across Europe, support for same-sex marriage is growing. In some regions, it is already an overwhelming social consensus. In others, progress is slower, but the map still tells an important story: support exists everywhere.

Cities and regions matter in this fight.

They are where equality becomes real. In public services. In local policies. In safe streets. In the daily lives of people who still face discrimination for who they are and who they love.

For the PES Group, there is no “local exception” to fundamental rights.

Marriage equality. LGBTIQ+ rights. Freedom from discrimination.

These belong everywhere in Europe.

🏳️‍🌈 A Europe made by everyone, for everyone.

Every time Trump 🇺🇸 pushes the world closer to another crisis, we’re reminded that car dependency comes with a price. ⚠️

Wars, trade disruptions, and climate disasters don’t just make headlines. They make fuel, food, and housing more expensive. And it’s ordinary people who end up paying.

That’s why European leaders should stand for peace internationally, while investing in resilient communities at home.

Walkable cities (and regions connected with fast, cheap, reliable public transport) are part of a more resilient future. Investments in public transport, cycling infrastructure, affordable housing, and local services strengthen communities while reducing dependence on unstable global energy markets.

A city built around people is not just better for the climate. It’s cheaper to live in, easier to get around, and more resilient when the world gets rough.

32% of women in politics in Europe report experiencing violence.

Nearly 1 in 3 face cyberviolence.

Behind those numbers are mayors, councillors and local representatives being targeted for their looks, their family life, their gender, or simply for taking space in public life.

As said: violence against women in politics is a democratic issue.

Because when women are pushed out of politics, democracy becomes less representative, less equal, and less safe.

The European Democracy Shield must include a strong gender perspective.

In most EU capitals, rent now exceeds the gross monthly minimum wage.‼️

Housing is a human right, not a luxury for those who can outbid everyone else. Yet, across Europe, working people are being priced out of the communities they built.

In Prague 🇨🇿, the average rent for a two-bedroom flat is 185% of the minimum wage. In Lisbon 🇵🇹, it’s 168%. Think about that: people working hard at minimum wage can no longer afford a home in their own city.

In a system that treats homes as investment assets instead of places to live, landlords and speculators keep profiting while workers are forced into overcrowded housing, long commutes, debt, or displacement from their own neighbourhoods. ⚠️

Riot police inside the headquarters of Turkey’s main opposition party.

Tear gas. Rubber bullets. Elected leaders forced out of their own building.

This is not an isolated incident.

Ekrem İmamoğlu, Mayor of Istanbul, is still behind bars.
Özgür Özel, the elected leader of the CHP, was removed after a court annulled the party’s congress.
Now the pressure is on the entire opposition.

For Dario Nardella, the EU must be clear: no more business as usual with a government dismantling democracy piece by piece.

We stand with the Turkish people.
We stand with those defending their democratic republic.

Because democracy is not only attacked on election day.
It is attacked when courts erase political choices.
It is attacked when police are sent against opposition parties.
It is attacked when elected leaders are treated as enemies.

And Europe must not look away.
