The Embassy of Brazil in Brussels welcomes the designation of Brazilian musician Alok as a Global Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The announcement recognizes not only the international prominence of one of Brazil’s most respected artists in the global music scene, but also his commitment to climate action, the empowerment of Indigenous peoples, and the protection of nature, including through initiatives developed in the Amazon and other Brazilian biomes.

On the eve of World Environment Day, celebrated on June 5, and within the framework of Amazon Week celebrations, this recognition carries special significance. It reaffirms the strength of Brazilian culture as a bridge between peoples, generations, and global agendas, while conveying an essential message: protecting the environment also means safeguarding ancestral knowledge, cultural diversity, and humanity’s shared future.

//

On the evening of May 28, 2026, at the Musical Instruments Museum - one of the most beautiful buildings in Mont des Arts, where the architecture itself seems shaped by rhythm, curved lines, and breath - Brazilian concert music found an audience that was attentive, curious, and, by the end of the evening, visibly moved.

It was in this remarkable setting that Felipe Avellar de Aquino, cellist and professor at the Federal University of Paraíba, organized, with the support of the Embassy of Brazil in Brussels and in the presence of Ambassador Silvio Albuquerque, a concert of rare symbolic delicacy. More than a musician of great sensitivity, Professor Felipe demonstrated how academic and artistic cooperation can create concrete pathways for the circulation of repertoires, talents, and new forms of listening.

Thus, alongside him performed outstanding musicians of exceptional quality: guitarist Ambroise Aubrun, pianist Andrea Carcano, and violist Kate Hamilton.

The program featured works by Radamés Gnattali, including Maneirando, as well as compositions by Ernani Aguiar, Flausino Vale, and Walter Burle Marx, whose Sambatango for cello and piano brilliantly revealed one of the most fascinating qualities of Brazilian music: its ability to move seamlessly between the popular and the classical traditions.

The evening concluded with Johannes Brahms’s Piano Quartet No. 1 in G minor, Op. 25, bringing to a close a night that will remain unforgettable for the fortunate audience in attendance.

BRAZIL’S CANDIDACY TO THE UN HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL
Brazil officially launched, on May 7, its candidacy for re-election to the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) for the 2027–2029 term. The elections will take place in October 2026, during the UN General Assembly in New York.
Brazil reaffirms its commitment to the multilateral system, to an international order based on international law, as well as to the universal promotion and protection of human rights, without distinction.
The commitments underpinning Brazil’s candidacy are based on the promotion of a just society of nations founded on diversity, inclusion, and social participation, with particular emphasis on sustainable development and the fight against hunger and inequalities. Within the HRC, Brazil projects its identity as a democratic and plural nation, governed by the democratic rule of law and by the inalienable respect for the dignity of the human person.
