Hier soir, le JT de la RTBF a consacré un reportage à l'avancement des travaux de restauration du bâtiment.

Mené par la Régie des Bâtiments, ce chantier d'envergure comprend notamment la rénovation de la toiture et des boiseries. La fin des travaux est prévue pour le mois de septembre.

À cette échéance, le chemin de ronde et le grenier seront à nouveau accessibles au public, permettant aux visiteurs de redécouvrir ces espaces emblématiques du monument.

🏰 The Halle Gate is slowly revealing its secrets…

As part of the ongoing restoration work carried out by the Belgian Buildings Agency, the black paint on the entrance doors has been carefully removed using dry ice blasting. During the process, a surprising detail emerged: a small hidden face was discovered beneath one of the door handles 👀

This mysterious figure - half human, half bird - had gone completely unnoticed until now.

The doors will soon receive several layers of varnish, while the metal fittings will be repainted black. As a result, the fully black doors will disappear, restoring a lighter, more elegant appearance to the Brussels-facing façade once again ✨

As this space transforms, artists are bringing a large-scale mural to life on the construction panels, in collaboration with .be 👀

🚧 A new entrance… with a touch of urban art 🎨
Starting Monday, April 20, the Halle Gate Museum will temporarily welcome visitors via the Saint-Gilles entrance.
To make this transition more welcoming, a unique mural is currently being created on the construction panels, in collaboration with TAVU agency 👀
👉 A way to turn this temporary passage into a true artistic space!

A ray and lobsters… in Brussels? 🦞😄

On this beautifully carved door - now preserved at the Halle Gate - you’ll spot a rather unexpected detail: a ray and a pair of lobsters.

This door once adorned the meeting room of Brussels’ fishmongers’ guild.

No, they weren’t catching rays in the Senne 😉
Thanks to the Willebroek Canal, fresh sea fish could be transported straight into the city, supplying the bustling fish market.

This thriving trade made the sea fishmongers one of the most powerful guilds in Brussels.

Today, their guild house has disappeared… but this door still tells their story.

🔎 Check out this fascinating tombstone 🪦

This tombstone from the Abbaye de Villers (Villers-la-Ville) tells the story of the knight Raes de Greez. It highlights two major moments in his life, including the famous Battle of Woeringen, where he proudly carried the Duke of Brabant’s banner.

The inscriptions are beautifully carved, offering a real glimpse into the Middle Ages.
