A fearless liberal and lifelong champion of freedom, human rights and a stronger Europe, she leaves an extraordinary legacy in Italy and across our continent.

Our heartfelt condolences go to her family, friends and our colleagues in Italy.

At yesterday’s special 50th anniversary Meet & Greet, our Party President Svenja Hahn welcomed the liberal family for an evening of connection and celebration.

A new piece of liberal history has arrived at ALDE Party HQ!

As we celebrate 50 years of European liberalism, we welcomed former European Parliament President Pat Cox to inaugurate our new Liberal Presidents Wall, honouring the liberal leaders who shaped Europe over the decades.

As our President Svenja Hahn and Vice-President Yevheniia Kravchuk made clear, from strengthening our democracy to championing EU enlargement, Pat Cox’s record is a reminder that Europe moves forward when liberals fight for progress.

Today, we’re proud to build on this legacy. We choose the future 🇪🇺

Ratko Mladić was a convicted war criminal, known as the “Butcher of Bosnia.”

His honouring at yesterday’s funeral, in the presence of several Serbian officials, was a deeply troubling display. Any glorification of war criminals, genocide denial and revisionism contradict the most fundamental European values and have no place in the EU or in EU candidate countries.

Our thoughts are instead with the victims and their families.

Using data from our latest Liberal Intelligence survey, we found that this year, the USA has entered the top three perceived threats to the EU, while Russia remains one of Europe's biggest concerns.

Canada’s Liberal Prime Minister Mark Carney will join this year’s State of the Union in Strasbourg, a powerful signal that Europe and Canada are moving closer.

With the Trump administration imposing illegal tariffs and belittling long-time allies, we need reliable partners who can keep their word. The EU and Canada already stand together on Ukraine, but there is much more we can achieve on trade, investment and defence, while strengthening our partnership based on trust, not threats.

The opportunity is here. Let’s seize it!
