The elections for the European Parliament in 2024 are going to take place before, during and after events that define Europe and the world: the Russian aggression against Ukraine, the Middle East turmoil, the assertiveness of China, the ever worsening climate crisis, the questions around immigration, as well as the US elections and the increased probability for a new Trump presidency.
The EU will have to compete with rising powers and find its own geopolitical voice.
At the same time, Yannis Karamitsios has proposed -through his book ‘Time for a European Federation’- the creation of a sovereign federal European state. This would make Europe a global protagonist and enable it to face the big challenges of our century.
In this respect, we are organising a discussion to explore together with the friends in Brussels the current state of affairs and the strategies in order to ensure a clear pro-European majority in the next 2024 EP elections. You can see in the poster the panel speakers.

A few months before the European Parliament elections of 2024, Europe is facing big threats, challenges and opportunities. The Russian aggression against Ukraine continues, which is also an aggression against European values and interests. Further funding of Ukraine by the U.S. is put in question, especially in view of a possible new Donald Trump presidency in 2025. The recent general elections in the Netherlands, and several regional elections and polls across the EU, saw the rise of far-right. The economy grows very slowly. The Middle East is on fire.

At the same, a proposal for the way forward has been presented by the book of Yannis Karamitsios “Time for a European Federation” (Peter Lang, December 2021) . It makes the case for the creation of a sovereign European federal state that would succeed the EU, and include its member states and other nations. It explains the reasons why this would be necessary to defend Europe and its values in a world of rising competition and autocracies like the one of Putin.

Yannis Karamitsios and Mariia Koshkina are thus inviting you to panel discussion about the state of European affairs, the defense of Ukraine, its funding possibilities and the prospects of a more united and even federated continent.
