Happy International Day for Women in Maritime
Embassy of the Republic of Liberia to the Benelux Countries
Today, the Embassy of the Republic of Liberia to the Benelux Countries proudly joins the global maritime community in celebrating the International Day for Women in Maritime by honoring the remarkable contributions of Liberian women who continue to shape and strengthen the maritime sector.
This year, we are pleased to spotlight Cllr. Margaret C. Ansumana, Deputy Commissioner for Maritime Affairs at the Liberia Maritime Authority, for her outstanding leadership, professionalism, and dedication to maritime governance and international cooperation.
Cllr. Ansumana is a distinguished Maritime Legal Expert and negotiator with more than two decades of experience in ocean governance, maritime safety, security, and environmental administration. She is a member of the Liberia National Bar Association (LNBA) and the Association of Female Lawyers of Liberia (AFELL).
She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration from the University of Liberia’s Romeo Horton College of Business and Public Administration, an LL.B. from the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law, and an LL.M. in International Maritime Law from the IMO International Maritime Law Institute (IMLI) in Malta.
Since joining the Liberia Maritime Authority in 2006, with an assignment at the Liberia International Ship and Corporate Registry in Virginia, USA, Cllr. Ansumana has demonstrated exemplary service and leadership. Prior to this role, she served as the Alternate Permanent Representative of Liberia to the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
Over the years, she has led Liberian Government delegations to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), International Labour Organization (ILO), United Nations (UN), and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), representing Liberia at major global forums and conferences in London, Paris, Geneva, New York, and beyond. In these capacities, she successfully negotiated and concluded several bilateral Maritime Transport Agreements on behalf of the Government of Liberia.
As Liberia’s first female Maritime Lawyer, Cllr. Ansumana continues to inspire and mentor a new generation of Liberian women and men within the maritime sector, many of whom now serve with distinction in their respective careers.
On this International Day for Women in Maritime, we celebrate Cllr. Margaret C. Ansumana and all women whose leadership and commitment continue to advance the maritime industry locally and globally.
Happy International Day for Women in Maritime!
