European Greens

European Greens 💚🌻
We bring together Green parties from across Europe for a democratic, feminist, and sustainable Europe.

The European Green Party was born on 22 February 2004, when 34 pan-European Member Parties gathered for the Fourth Congress of the European Federation of Green Parties, which took place in Rome. The European Greens were the first to evolve from a federation to a full-fledged European Political Party, a testament of our commitment to building a united Europe that delivers to its citizens. The first

goal of the newly established European Green Party was to focus on the 2004 European Parliament elections, which was the first time a common election campaign was run all throughout Europe. Since then, the European Green Party has further developed its structures to amplify the political expression of its Member Parties. Among other things, this includes the ability to have common policy positions, mutual election manifestos and uniformity in European election campaigns. All this is possible thanks to the funding that the European Parliament grants to European Political Parties. As mentioned in the EU Treaties, our job is to "contribute to forming European awareness and to express the political will of the citizens of the European Union." The European Green Party works very closely with the Greens-EFA group in the European Parliament. As a Europarty, it is the European Greens and its national Member Parties that run and contest the European elections. Once the elections are over, the elected Green candidates take up a seat in the Greens-EFA group as Members of the European Parliament.

This is an attack on the EU as a whole.

Yesterday evening, a Russian drone crashed onto the roof of an apartment building in Galați, Romania, a city of over 200,000 people. It injured two civilians and damaged people’s homes.

This is a serious breach of international law, violating the territorial integrity not only of an EU member state, but also of a NATO ally.

It is the latest in a series of reckless acts of aggression by Russia, including drone sightings in the Baltics.

Russia’s war against Ukraine continues to spill beyond Ukraine’s borders, while the people of Ukraine fight every day and countless lives continue to be lost because of Putin’s regime.

We continue to call for severe, punitive sanctions against Russia and its government and urge the European Commission and EU member states to act quickly and decisively on the next sanctions package.

We will continue to stand with Ukraine for as long as necessary, as it defends its people, freedom and territorial integrity.

2°C can be the difference between a bearable and an unbearable summer.
9°C can be the difference between a survivable environment and a deadly one.

As the demand for AI is increasing, so is the demand for data centres, as AI requires enormous data centres.

To try and compare, a modest data centre emits in heat what 40,000 houses consume in electricity.

Their cooling system rejects the equivalent of 2 to 6 times the heat of an afternoon mediterranean sun.
A giant data centre can create a heatwave of up to 10 km radius.
Without mentioning the tons of water and energy they require

We need to stop creating problems for the next generation to solve.

🇷🇸 180,000+ people demand elections in Belgrade!

It’s been 1.5 years since a rooftop collapsed in Novi Sad. Ever since then, people, led by students, have rallied to demand answers; an end to corruption; and free and fair elections.

While this was one of the largest protests, thousands of people have been taking the streets consistently during the last 1.5 years. All too often they are met with police violence, tear gas and unlawful arrests.

Democracy will not be silenced.

Our Committee, including our co-chairs Vula Tsetsi & Ciarán Cuffe , visited Belgrade last month. We stand together with the people of Serbia and our member party Zeleno-levi front / Ne davimo Beograd.

Hottest May day on record for France, the UK and Ireland.

Another year of broken records, another year of slow slow sloooooow climate action and still no ban on fossil fuels.

People are suffering, temperatures are increasing, biodiversity is declining.
Some people say we sound alarmist. Well, we are alarmed. But we are not paralysed by it. We are demanding action.

Time for EU governments to stop their petty arguments and take real climate action.

Democracy in Turkey is under attack.

The EU has the power to take action on the dismantling of Turkey’s democratic opposition. Political parties and elected parliamentary representatives have suffered gravely under Erdoğan’s rule. The EU must examine what consequences this will have.

The EU must maintain its democratic commitments.
It is time for action, and agreement on concrete measures.

The targeting of opposition figures and elected representatives marks a serious escalation in Turkey’s democratic decline and a deterioration in human rights.

Turkey must uphold democratic standards, the rule of law, and respect for political freedoms.

There is a reason why trains are so expensive.
And it’s not a good one.

✈ Airlines DON’T pay either a tax on kerosene or VAT on International travel
🚄 In comparison, train companies HAVE TO pay a tax on energy, VAT on international travel and high track access costs. How is that fair? 😡

Dear EU Institutions: Let’s stop being anti-train and start prioritising low-emission travel.

⚠️ A rise in temperature = a decline in nature.

Biodiversity is the backbone of our planet and our future.
From the tiniest pollinator to the tallest tree, every living thing is part of the web that sustains us all.

On International Day for Biological Diversity, we are reminded that biodiversity is declining faster than ever.
Because of changes in the natural environment including deforestation (caused by humans).
Because of the rise in temperatures, floods and wildfires, all caused by the climate crisis.

But we have solutions for that. Greens want to:
🟢 10% of the EU budget for biodiversity by 2026
🟢 Restore nature with the Nature Restoration Law
🟢 Shift from pesticide-heavy agribusiness to sustainable farming

Biodiversity isn't optional. It's vital.

✊ Free Ekrem İmamoğlu!

After 427 days in jail, the Mayor of Istanbul is now on trial – but the charges against him are politically motivated.
His ‘crime’? Being President Erdoğan’s main rival.

His arrest and the arrest of countless mayors in Turkey is part of the most recent wave of political repression.

Vula Tsetsi is here in Istanbul to represent the European Greens’ support for the release of Ekrem İmamoğlu and all other political prisoners.
The citizens of Turkey have the right to choose their representatives in free elections.

The repression of the opposition must stop.
