تعرب وزارة الخارجية عن ترحيب جمهورية العراق باعتماد مجلس جامعة الدول العربية على المستوى الوزاري، خلال دورته العادية الـ (165) المنعقدة في العاصمة الأردنية عمّان، تعيين السيد نبيل فهمي أميناً عاماً لجامعة الدول العربية لمدة خمس سنوات، اعتباراً من الأول من تموز 2026، وذلك بإجماع الدول الأعضاء وبتفويض من القادة العرب.
وتؤكد الوزارة تطلع العراق إلى التعاون مع الأمين العام الجديد بما يسهم في تعزيز العمل العربي المشترك، وتطوير آليات التعاون والتنسيق بين الدول العربية، ودعم الجهود الرامية إلى تحقيق الأمن والاستقرار والتنمية في المنطقة.
كما تتقدم الوزارة بخالص الشكر والتقدير للأمين العام السابق لجامعة الدول العربية، السيد أحمد أبو الغيط، تقديراً لجهوده وإسهاماته في خدمة قضايا الأمة العربية وتعزيز دور الجامعة العربية خلال فترة توليه المنصب.
ويجدد العراق، بوصفه أحد الأعضاء المؤسسين لجامعة الدول العربية، التزامه بدعم الجامعة ومؤسساتها، وحرصه على الإسهام الفاعل في تعزيز التضامن العربي وتحقيق المصالح المشتركة للدول والشعوب العربية.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomes the decision of the Council of the League of Arab States at the Ministerial Level, during its 165th Ordinary Session held in the Jordanian capital, Amman, to appoint H.E. Mr. Nabil Fahmy as Secretary-General of the League of Arab States for a five-year term commencing on 1 July 2026. The appointment was adopted by consensus of the Member States and pursuant to a mandate from the Arab leaders.
The Ministry affirms Iraq’s aspiration to cooperate with the new Secretary-General in a manner that contributes to strengthening joint Arab action, developing mechanisms of cooperation and coordination among Arab states, and supporting efforts aimed at achieving security, stability, and development throughout the region.
The Ministry also extends its sincere appreciation and gratitude to the former Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, H.E. Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, in recognition of his efforts and contributions in serving Arab causes and enhancing the role of the League during his tenure.
As one of the founding members of the League of Arab States, Iraq renews its commitment to supporting the League and its institutions and reaffirms its determination to contribute actively to strengthening Arab solidarity and advancing the common interests of Arab states and peoples.
