Rowena Djengozov from our PNG office attended the 4th EU-PNG Business, Trade & Investment Conference held at the APEC Haus in Port Moresby on Monday 30th of October. Rowena is a graduate of the American University of Bulgaria and part of our communications team. She’s pictured here (L-R) with Ms. Hannah Pepson, Secretary of the PNG Europe Business Council and his Excellency Jaques Fradin, Ambassador of the European Union to Papua New Guinea.

The one-day business-to-business conference served as a significant platform for engaging in in-depth discussions surrounding sustainable economic opportunities within the EU-Pacific Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), as well as building connections to explore new opportunities in the EU market.

The event brought together distinguished guests and speakers who shared their valuable insights and expertise on fostering collaboration between the European Union and the Pacific through an engaging series of panel sessions. These sessions focused on opportunities within the agribusiness, energy, development finance and resource sectors.

The conference is designed to pave the way for sustainable development through trade and investment for both the European Union and Pacific nations. We thank the PNG Europe Business Council for the opportunity to attend this conference and congratulate the organisers on a fantastic event.

The EU market is a massive long-term opportunity for both current and potential exporters from the Pacific Islands. Eurostat's 2020 data reveals that the EU-27 held a substantial 16.0% share of total global GDP (measured in Purchasing Power Standards) in 2017. This places it just behind China and the US.

What's more, the EU boasts a GDP per capita almost three times that of China and a population around one-third larger than the US. This showcases the formidable size of its consumer market.
