Looking back at this week’s TRANS2026 conference🔍
Once again, this year, the European Parliament’s translation service was pleased to co-organise and join in Maribor, Slovenia, the TRANS International Summer Academy and Conference in Translation Studies — a now well-established annual appointment for us. This 13th edition was dedicated to a most timely topic: ‘Artificial Intelligence for Language Professionals’. 🤖 💬
AI is changing the way we use and learn languages, bringing both exciting opportunities and important challenges.
In his opening speech and in his talk ‘Why language professionals matter in the age of AI’, our Director-General Valter Mavrič, highlighted the need to explore how AI can make our work more efficient and improve quality, while keeping human expertise at the centre. The future of translation should not be a competition between language professionals and machines, but an opportunity for the two to harness their combined strengths. 🤝
Our translation service also contributed to the programme with a presentation by Marta Kakol, Head of our Enlargement and Third-Country Languages Unit and with hands-on workshops for students delivered by our managers and translators.
Take a look at some photos from the conference — a week filled with inspiring opportunities to lean and exchange. Thank you to everyone involved!
