The main purpose of our library is to support the teaching and research activities of the College of Europe.

A high priority is placed on easy access to electronic information resources. Our collection consists of books and periodicals relating to European integration and

focusing on European law, economics, politics and international relations and diplomacy. Het hoofddoel van onze bibliotheek is het ondersteunen van de onderwijs- en onderzoeksactiviteiten van het Europacollege. Eenvoudige toegang tot elektronische bronnen is een topprioriteit. Onze collectie bestaat uit boeken en tijdschriften, met als overkoepelend thema Europese integratie. De focus ligt hierbij op Europees recht, economie, politiek en internationale en diplomatieke betrekkingen. EUROPEAN DOCUMENTATION CENTRE (EDC)

The European Documentation Centre (EDC) in Bruges is part of the Europe Direct Information Network set up by the European Commission. It is located in the library of the College of Europe. The purpose of this network is to support the study and research on European integration and to inform researchers, students and citizens about the institutions, activities and policies of the European Union. Het Europees Documentatiecentrum (EDC) in Brugge maakt deel uit van het Europe Direct informatienetwerk opgericht door de Europese Commissie en bevindt zich in de bibliotheek van het Europacollege. Dit netwerk wil het onderwijs en onderzoek over Europese integratie bevorderen en informatie over de instellingen, activiteiten en beleid van de Europese Unie aanbieden aan onderzoekers, studenten en burgers.

76 years ago...the EU was born 🇪🇺 Do you know how?

After the horrors of the Second World War, on 9 May 1950, French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman presented a vision for a united Europe, built on peace and solidarity.

His idea: to make war ‘not merely unthinkable, but materially impossible’.

How to achieve it? By deepening cooperation between European nations - first by pooling coal and steel production.

That idea has laid the foundation for today’s European Union.

The College of Europe library celebrates International Women's Day 2026

The library joins the celebration of International Women's Day 2026 by putting some relevant books on display! It is our small but meaningful way of showing our support for gender equality and to celebrate the contributions women make to our community and beyond. Please, feel free to add your books or books from (y)our library shelves to the display at the library reception desk!

Welcome back for the second semester! All our best wishes for you and we hope you have enjoyed the warm company of friends, family and loved ones during the winter break. Thesis time is looming on the horizon and we are here to assist you. Feel free to reach out to your library team for any help needed. Opening hours are back to normal - from 9 AM till 21:45 PM, 7 days a week - and the blankets are still at your disposal. Good luck for this second semester, enjoy the national weeks, the SIM games, the studytrips and the friendships!

Debate on the 2025 State of the Union Address

On September 10th, 2025 at 9:00, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, delivered her first SOTEU speech of her second mandate to the European Parliament.
The same evening at 17:00, a debate was organized by the Bruges Library and European Documentation Centre with Rector Federica MOGHERINI and Professor Michael KAEDING as the main speakers, introduced by academic assistant Harm van de Plassche.
The well received event was closed off by a brief Q&A session where staff, students of the Victoria Amelina Promotion and participants of the EUDA/EUDP programs had the chance to raise their voices.
