As part of an official visit to Belgium, the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky held a meeting with Prime Minister of Belgium Bart De Vever.

The Head of State thanked Belgium for financial and defensive assistance to our country. Leaders discussed further support for Ukraine, including strengthening of air defense. It was about the possibilities of additional contributions to the PURL program and the implementation of joint projects within SAFE.

The Prime Minister informed about the preparation of a new large defense package and contributions to PURL.

Separate attention - the plan and timeline of the supply of F-16 aircraft from Belgium. Already this year there will be the first deliveries, and Ukraine expects that further fighters will come too promptly.

The President spoke about the meetings at the Group Seven summit, the overall situation in diplomacy and the work with partners in the special format Drone Deals. Vladimir Zelensky suggested Belgium to make a relevant agreement and build a secure partnership.

It was also about the European integration of Ukraine. The President thanked Belgium for its support of the opening of the first negotiating cluster for Ukraine and Moldova. According to the Head of State, our country is counting on opening the remaining five clusters in the near future. Vladimir Zelensky emphasized that despite the war, Ukrainians are fulfilling their obligations, and the level of support for EU entry among our people is one of the highest among candidate countries, so it is fair that negotiations on entry move in accordance with Ukraine's progress in reforms.

We also talked about strengthening sanctions pressure on the Russian shadow fleet. 🇺🇦 🇧🇪

Mission of Ukraine to the EU

Yesterday in Luxembourg, at the Intergovernmental Conference, Cluster 1 was formally opened for Ukraine and Moldova – marking the launch of the first stage of accession negotiations and the backbone of the entire EU integration process ⭐️

This decision reflects recognition of Ukraine’s sustained reform efforts and its commitment to aligning with the EU’s core values, including the rule of law, democratic governance, and strong institutions, even in the face of Russia's ongoing aggression and terror.

The decision follows the unanimous approval by all 27 EU Member States.

Together, we are moving closer to building of a stronger, safer, and more united European future. Ukraine stands with the EU 🇺🇦🇪🇺

Russia's overnight attack on Kyiv struck one of the greatest holy sites of Christianity and a UNESCO World Heritage site – the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra.

A fire covering approximately 800 square meters broke out on the roof of the Dormition Cathedral after the attack. Emergency crews continue to work at the site.

The damage occurred during a massive Russian assault on Kyiv that killed at least four people and injured dozens more. The strike also caused a fire at a building of the Mystetskyi Arsenal National Cultural, Arts and Museum Complex, where flames spread across about 1,000 square meters.

Targeting the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra is an unforgivable attack on Ukraine's cultural and spiritual heritage and on a site of outstanding value to humanity. We expect a strong response from the international community.

💬 "We will be urgently initiating all relevant procedures within UNESCO and all other international mechanisms, demanding immediate and adequate responses to this state barbarism.

We expect strong reactions by international institutions and capitals. No vague words, silence, or weak steps. We need action now to stop Russian barbarism," Ukraine's Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha has stressed.

Russia is waging its war not only against our people. It is waging it against Ukrainian culture, history, memory, industry, and the normal way of life.

Kyiv, the epicenter of Russia’s attack tonight, will recover. Russia’s reputation as a terrorist state will not.

We must collectively ensure that enough pressure is put on Russia for the sake of peace.

Mission of Ukraine to the EU

Congratulations to President Zelensky !

🥇 On May 19, during the plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky was awarded the European Order "For Merit". The award is given for leadership in Europe's most difficult time, courage and resilience in the face of Russia's illegal foreign war against Ukraine, for strengthening European unity and security, protecting democracy and common European values.

Among the awardees is also Oleksandra Matvijchuk Oleksandra Matviichuk ), human rights activist and head of Center for Civil Liberties / Центр громадянських свобод who documents Russia's war crimes in Ukraine. She is noted for her unwavering commitment to protecting human rights, supporting war victims, providing them with legal assistance, and active cooperation with international institutions.

💬 "There is a global storm coming. The world order based on the UN statute and international law has collapsed. These dramatic times are challenging us all. And Europe is not so much geography as values. Europe must protect freedom and democracy, because only the willingness to protect our values determines society, which has a future," Oleksandra Matvijchuk announced during the ceremony.

The solemn ceremony took place with the participation of the President of the European Parliament Robert Meczola and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.

🇺🇦 The high distinction was also a recognition of the contribution of the Ukrainian people to the protection of freedom, democracy and building of a strong European project.

Mission of Ukraine to the EU

🇪🇺 On 9 May, on the occasion of Europe Day, the EU institutions opened their doors in Brussels, bringing together thousands of visitors around shared European values.

🇺🇦 Historically, culturally, and in terms of values, Ukraine has always been part of Europe. Today, this connection is deepening further – through reforms, policies, and decisions that are steadily bringing Ukraine closer to membership in the European Union.

🤝 We express our sincere gratitude to partners, EU's institutions, the diplomatic corps of the EU Member States and EU citizens for their support and solidarity with Ukraine, once again reaffirming that Ukraine is an integral part of the European family.

It was an honour to attend the Enabel event “Brave Faces of Resilience – From Surgery to Society: Ukraine’s Reintegration Journey” at Bozar in Brussels.

The evening brought together powerful human stories, impressive photography and an important discussion on rehabilitation, mental health, social reintegration and the return to active life for Ukrainian veterans and civilians affected by the war.

A special appreciation to ENABEL, Superhumans Center, the speakers, partners and participants for highlighting the importance of medical care, psychological support, social inclusion and international cooperation.

Respect for the important work being done by Superhumans Center and all organisations involved.

Russia launched a massive overnight attack across Ukraine, hitting multiple regions and civilian areas. At least five people were killed, and more than 30 were injured.

Dnipro was the main target. A residential building was partially destroyed, with people likely still under the rubble. Fourteen people were injured, including a child, and more than 30 residents were rescued. Search and rescue efforts are ongoing.

In the Chernihiv region, strikes on several communities killed at least two people and injured others. In the Odesa region, homes were destroyed, and civilians were wounded.

Russia’s tactics remain unchanged: drones and missiles targeting cities, homes, and everyday life. Stopping this requires stronger sanctions, continued isolation of Russia, and sustained support for Ukraine.

Last week, I had the honour of attending an important round table discussion at the European Parliament in Brussels.

The discussion was centred on Ukrainian skeleton athlete Vladyslav Heraskevych and his powerful story. After refusing to remove his commemorative helmet honouring Ukrainian athletes killed in the war, he was disqualified from the Olympic competition. His case is a strong reminder that sport is not only about competition, but also about dignity, memory, freedom of expression, and respect for democratic values.

It was meaningful to attend this discussion together with the Ukrainian Ambassador to the EU, Vsevolod Chentsov, and other participants.

My sincere thanks to MEP Petras Auštrevičius for the invitation and for supporting this important initiative in the European Parliament.
