On Wednesday, 16th September 2026, the Caribbean Group of Ambassadors in Brussels (CGAB) held its first meeting after the summer break under the coordination of Her Excellency Joan Cedano, Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to the Kingdom of Belgium and Head of Mission to the European Union.

The group had a productive meeting discussing its priorities for the next 6 months.

On 14th and 15th September 2026, Ambassador Mills supported by Ms. JoAnne Archibald, Principal Director of Culture at the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport and, Ms. Tisana Clarke, First Secretary at the Embassy, attended the Meeting of the Preparatory Group for the 225th Session of the Executive Board of UNESCO to be held in Paris next month.

The team engaged a number of delegations, including Her Excellency Barbara Kaudel-Jensen, Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of Austria to UNESCO and used the opportunity to contribute to the gift being given to His Holiness Pope Leo XIV on the occasion of his visit to the Organisation on 25th September.

🇯🇲🇧🇪 The summer holidays may have come to a close but the engagements in Brussels are heating up. Ambassador Mills attended the inaugural barbecue luncheon for the diplomatic corps hosted by Mr. Maxime Prévot, Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs and Development Cooperation of the Kingdom of Belgium. The event marked the end of the summer break. (first slide).

She also visited the RV Belgica, a 71-meter-long research vessel on marine sciences which was organised by the Sablon Diplomatic Circle. During the visit, she met several individuals, including Ms. Sophie Mirgaux, Belgium's Special Envoy for the Ocean (second slide).

The Embassy congratulates all the Jamaican athletes who participated in the 50th Allianz Memorial Van Damme, on the final leg of the Diamond League series held on 4th and 5th September 2026, in Brussels, Belgium.

Jamaicans placed first in 4 events (100m men and women, men's long jump and men's shot put).

We also acknowledge fellow Caribbean nationals, who also competed in several disciplines, including Julien Alfred from Saint Lucia, who won the women's 200m and with whom we were able to extend personal congratulations (slide 4)

Over the course of the Meet, the Ambassador had the opportunity to meet Annick de Ridder, the Flemish Minister responsible for Sport (slide 5) as well as fellow members of the diplomatic corps (H.E. Jose Lambour, Ambassador of Guatemala slide 6)

We express our appreciation to the organisers and congratulate them on the successful staging of the event.

Today, 5 September 2026, Ambassador Mills and some of the members of the Embassy team had the pleasure to meet Oblique Seville to congratulate him on winning the men’s 100m on Day 1 of the Diamond League finals in Brussels, Belgium. It was also a pleasure to meet his manager Mr. Norman Peart (3rd slide).

The Embassy welcomes the opportunity to acknowledge those who have become Jamaican citizens. In that connection, we are pleased to share that recently Ambassador Mills presented Tiana and Tilly Bailey with their Citizenship Certificates. She also presented Certificates to the 3 young Noel Beswick sisters.

Following the successful 11th Biennial Jamaica Diaspora Conference in June, on Monday, 31st August 2026, Ambassador Mills met with Global Jamaica Diaspora Council member for Europe, Dr. Rose de Vreieze-McBean, and Dr. Sandra Colly-Durand, Education Sector Lead, to discuss and explore future programmes and intiatives.

The Government of Jamaica attaches tremendous importance to engaging the Diaspora, recognising their significant contribution to Jamaica’s development. Accordingly, the Embassy will continue to support efforts to strengthen Diaspora engagement.

🇯🇲🇧🇪, the Embassy wishes to congratulate Mrs. Sarah Gasquard on being appointed the Kingdom of Belgium’s Ambassador to Jamaica. Before departing to Kingston, Ambassador Mills had the pleasure of engaging Mrs. Gasquard at the Embassy to express best wishes on her tour of duty in Jamaica.
