The Ugandan Community in Qatar - UGACOQ is a non-political, non-profit, non-religious and, non-ethnic formal association comprised of persons living in the State of Qatar and other concerned global well-wishers, who are of Ugandan origin or have ties to Uganda. VISION STATEMENT:

One of the main objectives of this association is to foster the well-being of all Ugandans living in the State of Qatar

by creating a sustainable and relevant socio-welfare organisation and Network that will stand the test of time as we seek to support Ugandans living in the State of Qatar. Through this community, we are encouraged to unite under one umbrella so as to form a cohesive and viable front to address the numerous issues that concern us. Ugandans living in the State of Qatar and neighboring areas are encouraged to be active members of the association. OBJECTIVES:

UGACOQ was developed with the understanding that there is need to provide professionals with diverse opportunities for networking, professional development, exploiting the untapped potential inherent in the various sectors like inter Qatar-Uganda agribusiness, industry and trade. By this association, we come together as Ugandans to celebrate our national heritage and unity, with highlights such as our National Independence Day which is commemorated annually on 09th October. Over the years, there has been a significant increase in the number of Ugandans living in the State of Qatar, with a projected surge of our population here in Qatar set to take off from 2017 in the buildup for Qatar 2022 World Cup. Last Wednesday, I had the honor of leading a delegation from the Ugandan Community in Qatar (UGACOQ) for an official engagement meeting with the Community Policing Department of the State of Qatar at the Department Headquarters in Doha.

The meeting was graciously hosted upon the invitation of Brigadier Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Rashid Al Semaih, Director of the Community Policing Department, and coordinated by Dr. Bahauddeen, Community Coordinator.

We were honored to engage with distinguished officials including:

Colonel Rashid Mubarak Al Khayarin – Assistant Director of the Department
Lt. Col. Fahad Mohammed Ali Al Kaabi – Head of the Social Support Office
Captain Khalid Hussain Al Shammari – Head of the Awareness and Education Section

I was joined by Mr. Akampurira Edson, Director of Religious and Leadership Affairs at UGACOQ.

The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between the Ugandan community and the Community Policing Department, while discussing the history and work of UGACOQ, the contribution of Ugandans to Qatar’s development, community challenges, and our shared vision for a safe, united, and thriving society.

As we reflected on nearly 10 years of community leadership and engagement, we emphasized that Qatar has become more than a workplace for many Ugandans — it is a second home that has given countless opportunities to our people and inspired us through visionary leadership, investment in education, safety, healthcare, youth empowerment, and human development.

We also discussed how community leadership and institutions can continue working side by side in supporting:

Community awareness and education
Youth engagement initiatives
Social wellbeing and safety
Crime prevention and mediation
Stronger cooperation between communities and national institutions

The engagement reaffirmed the importance of community policing as a bridge between law enforcement and society, built on trust, partnership, and proactive problem-solving.

On behalf of UGACOQ, we sincerely appreciate Brigadier Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Rashid Al Semaih and the entire Community Policing Department for their hospitality, openness, and commitment to engaging communities in building a peaceful and secure Qatar for all.

📢 UGACOQ Community Update
Today, UGACOQ Leaders attended an invitation meeting organized by the Community Policing Department under Qatar Police, where important community matters were discussed.
In addition, the Community Leaders also represented the community at the launch of the Heat Stress Awareness Campaign 2026 held at Sheraton Hotel, organized by the Workers’ Support and Insurance Fund.

This recognition is not mine alone.

We would like to sincerely appreciate all community members and leaders for the unity, compassion, and contributions shown towards the repatriation of our late sister. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
As a way forward, the Community Chair has suggested the introduction of the “Muno Mukabi” monthly contribution initiative — a voluntary plan aimed at strengthening our support system and preparing us to assist one another in times of need and emergencies.
Your thoughts and support on this suggestion are highly welcome as we continue building a stronger and caring community.

Today, the Embassy hosted a productive meeting at its premises with UGACOQ Leaders to discuss a number of important matters concerning the welfare and support of our community members.
The meeting was attended by the Head of the Consular Department and other Embassy staff, representing the Embassy. On behalf of the Community, the Chairperson, together with various Community leaders from different departments, was present.
We would like to inform you that a detailed breakdown of the discussions and outcomes will be shared progressively, as we continue to engage and work towards the best possible results for our community.
In the meantime, we kindly encourage everyone who has not yet registered with the Community to do so, and also share the registration link with others. Please feel free to reach out through our official communication channels in case of any inquiries or support. Remember, the Community is always here to serve you.
The Embassy also extended its greetings to all Ugandans and encouraged everyone to remain calm during this current situation, while staying connected to both the Embassy and the Community.
