In 1997 TAIZE Brothers started a handmade carpet workshop in Mymensingh. Later, some of them were employed at the workshop. The workshop was in the care of Protibondhi Community Center (PCC) for a long time. In time the workshop became self-reliant. The workshop was meeting all its expenditures with sales. As the women with disability were employed here their society and family started to see them
in a new light. Their Confidence has grown. The workshop only employed only a handful of disable women. There are many people with disability who don’t have any kind of employment. There are many organisations that work with people with disability. But the fact is that these organisations never employ people with disability even if they possess the required skills. In the light of this revelation, we thought of expanding the opportunity we are enjoying. The thought gave birth to 'Disability Self Development Organisation(DSDO)'. The Organisation is directed by People with Disability, for People with Disability and with Disable people. DSDO plays an important role in creating leadership in Local Disability Community and their socio-economic development by our groups. We are working to generate employment for people with disability and to ensure proper implementation of existing laws regarding people with disability. We also work to ensure their access to various NGOs and Govt. We want a society where People with Disability can enjoy opportunities and rights like every person is entitled to. We also want for people with disability to ensure equal participation in every social activity. We heartily believe that given appropriate environment and opportunity People with Disability can do wonders for themselves as well as for the society.
