“Media independence is not guaranteed — it must be built, protected, and renewed,” – Ambassador Nicolas Weeks said as he joined the inaugural session of the Bangladesh Journalism Conference 2026, which brought together over 500 journalists, editors, policymakers, and media leaders from 10 countries to discuss the future of media in a rapidly evolving landscape. The two-day conference also included discussions on the need to address misinformation, disinformation, hate speech, and AI-driven information manipulation.

Sweden 🇸🇪 supported this important platform as a knowledge partner, promoting information integrity, inclusive newsrooms, and practical reforms in the media sector in Bangladesh.
