“Icarus” – (the Latin spelling, conventionally adopted in English; Ancient Greek: Ἴκαρος, Íkaros, Etruscan: Vikare).
The Legend: In Greek mythology, Icarus is the son of master craftsman Daedalus, the creator of the Labyrinth. Daedalus was imprisoned along with his son by Menos, the king of Crete. In an attempt to escape from Crete, Daedalus fashioned two pairs of wings out of wax and feathers – for himself and his son. Daedalus tried his wings first, but before taking off from the island, warned his son not to fly too close to the sun, nor too close to the sea, but to follow his path of flight. Overpowered by the giddiness that flying lent him, Icarus ignored his father's instructions not to fly too close to the sun, whereupon the wax in his wings melted and he fell into the sea.

Introducing Project Icarus: a youth initiative for artists and art enthusiasts in Bangladesh. Since inception in 2013 as Icarus, the platform has been stimulating aspiring young artists to broaden their creative horizons, which in future will help enrich national art and culture through originality and innovation.
Icarus has a 360-degree initiative which involves and exposes aspiring talents to international best practices by engaging them in art showcases and workshops, encouraging them to play an active role as both organizer and participant.
Icarus began through direct interaction with students of small art schools in different communities across Dhaka, Bangladesh – inspiring them with introduction to new cultures and forms of art (esp. Japanese manga and anime). The initiative started with exposing these children to Japanese anime/ cartoon movies and brief introductions to new/ pop art cultures.
Icarus achieved its first big-scale event in 2014 with its flagship venture “Beacons” - a multidimensional art showcase combining elements as never tried before in South Asia. Beacons was followed by Icarus’ first workshop on art, illustration and animation, with cordial support from the Embassy of Japan. The workshop, called “Sollertia”, was established as the flagship of Icarus.
Since then, Icarus has not stopped. By December 2015, Icarus became an officially registered entity under the name "PROJECT ICARUS". Now, Project Icarus has proven track records of 15+ events, 10+ comic book/ graphic novel streams, and a historic national awards win.
