A Message to All Rohingya Brothers and Sisters

On the occasion of the 9th Anniversary of Rohingya Genocide Remembrance Day 2026, to be commemorated on 25 August 2026, the Arakan Rohingya Society for Peace and Human Rights (ARSPHR) respectfully invites all Rohingya brothers and sisters, students, teachers, parents, community leaders, religious leaders, youth, women, elders, and other stakeholders to participate in the commemoration.

Let us come together peacefully and respectfully at the designated locations approved by the Government of Bangladesh to remember the victims of the Rohingya genocide, honour those who lost their lives and homes, and raise our collective voice before the world for justice, accountability, dignity, and a safe, voluntary, dignified, and sustainable return to our homeland, Arakan.

This day is not only a day of remembrance; it is also an opportunity to demonstrate our unity, resilience, and determination to protect the rights and future of the Rohingya people. ARSPHR will actively stand together with you all and participate in the commemoration.

Let us remember. Let us unite. Let us raise our voice for justice.

HOW FAR IS THE FUTURE OF ROHINGYA REPATRIATION?

On 20 August 2026, Mr. Marcel Colun, Head of Sub-Office, UNHCR, delivered an insightful and thought-provoking speech on the ongoing Rohingya crisis during the important roundtable discussion titled “How Far Is the Future of Rohingya Repatriation?”

His remarks emphasized the urgent need to address the complex challenges surrounding the safe, voluntary, dignified, and sustainable repatriation of the Rohingya. The discussion also highlighted the importance of creating the necessary conditions to ensure that any future return is based on safety, rights, dignity, and long-term sustainability.

A Crucial Meeting on 9th Anniversary of Rohingya Genocide Remembrance Day 2026

Today, Friday, 21 August 2026, the Executive Committee (EC) Members of the Arakan Rohingya Society for Peace and Human Rights (ARSPHR) successfully conducted a crucial meeting regarding the commemoration of the 9th Anniversary of Rohingya Genocide Remembrance Day, to be observed on 25 August 2026.

Following the meeting, Mohammed Younus, an EC Member of ARSPHR, shared a reflection on the key discussions, preparations, and planned activities for commemorating this important day. The discussion highlighted the need for unity, peaceful remembrance, proper preparation, and continued advocacy for justice and accountability.

As we remember the victims and survivors of the Rohingya genocide, we renew our commitment to keeping our stories alive and raising our collective voice before the world for justice, accountability, dignity, and the safe, voluntary, dignified and sustainable return of the Rohingya people to their homeland with full rights and security.

May Allah grant us the strength and wisdom to commemorate this solemn day peacefully and successfully, and may our voices reach the world until justice and accountability are achieved.

We, all the Executive Committee (EC) and Central Executive Committee (CEC) Members of the Arakan Rohingya Society for Peace and Human Rights (ARSPHR), extend our heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to 𝑴𝒓. 𝑴𝒊𝒓𝒛𝒂 𝑭𝒂𝒌𝒉𝒓𝒖𝒍 𝑰𝒔𝒍𝒂𝒎 𝑨𝒍𝒂𝒎𝒈𝒊𝒓 on his election as the 23rd President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.

We sincerely hope that His Excellency’s leadership will contribute to strengthening peace, justice, human rights, democracy, and social harmony in Bangladesh. We also hope that his presidency will bring renewed attention and meaningful efforts toward resolving the long-standing Rohingya crisis.

For decades, the Rohingya people have suffered persecution, violence, displacement, and denial of their fundamental rights. More than one million Rohingya refugees continue to live in Bangladesh after being forced to flee their homeland. We deeply appreciate the generosity and humanitarian support extended by the Government and people of Bangladesh to the Rohingya community.

As Rohingya, our greatest aspiration is to return safely and voluntarily to our ancestral homeland, Arakan (Rakhine State, Myanmar), with full rights, dignity, security, and guarantees for a sustainable future. Therefore, we sincerely hope that the new leadership of Bangladesh will continue to advocate strongly for a safe, voluntary, dignified, and sustainable repatriation process and engage constructively with Myanmar and the international community to achieve a lasting solution.

We further hope that President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will uphold Bangladesh’s humanitarian commitments and support efforts to ensure justice, accountability, citizenship rights, security, and fundamental freedoms for the Rohingya people.

ARSPHR stands ready to cooperate constructively with the Government of Bangladesh, humanitarian organizations, civil society, and the international community in promoting peace, human rights, humanitarian protection, and a durable solution to the Rohingya crisis.

Once again, we extend our warmest congratulations to His Excellency Mr. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and wish him wisdom, strength, good health, and success in his service to the people of Bangladesh.

Joint Response Statement on Myanmar Military Junta's Statement Regarding the Repatriation of Displaced persons from Arakan (Rakhine) State.

DG (Myanmar) Mr. Md. Toufiq-ur-Rahman met Ambassador U Kyaw Soe Moe of Myanmar to Bangladesh today at his office in MOFA.

Referring to the latest press statement issued by the Myanmar Foreign Ministry on the Rohingya matter (dated 15 August), the DG mentioned that many elements of the statement were based on erroneous statistics, including the number of the displaced Rohingya population. Their data registered under the UN system reflects their accurate numbers. The DG also requested the Ambassador on expediting the verification process of the displaced Rohingyas based on agreed bilateral instruments including taking into account of the children born in the camps, and the new arrivals, forced to leave Rakhine after 2017. Bangladesh is in the process of registering them and the information of Rohingyas after the caseload of 828,824 would be shared with the Myanmar authorities in due course. The DG requested to duly reflect these added information in the verification exercise. It was also pointed out that Rohingyas are not ‘Bengalis’ as they have their own ethnic identities accepted by the Myanmar authority until recently.

Ambassador Soe Moe assured to convey Bangladesh’s concerns and observations to his capital and expressed his government’s commitment to expedite the verification process to begin the repatriation of the verified Rohingyas.

The DG reiterated that the only sustainable solution of the crisis lies in safe, dignified, and voluntary repatriation of the Rohingyas to Rakhine.

Reflection Video from Abu Zar, One of the Trainees

Training on Community Volunteerism and Leadership for Youth – 1st Batch

The Arakan Rohingya Society for Peace and Human Rights (ARSPHR) successfully completed the 1st Batch of the 2-Day Training on Community Volunteerism and Leadership for Youth, held on 7–8 August 2026 in the Rohingya refugee camp.

Following the completion of the training, Abu Zar, one of the trainees, shared his reflections through a video. He spoke about his experiences during the training, the knowledge and skills he gained, and how he intends to apply his learning to support and serve his community.

In his reflection, Abu Zar expressed his sincere appreciation and gratitude to the trainers and ARSPHR for organizing the training and providing young people with an opportunity to strengthen their leadership, volunteerism, and community engagement skills. He also expressed his hope that ARSPHR will continue to create meaningful learning and leadership opportunities for Rohingya youth.

His reflection highlights the importance of investing in youth leadership, volunteerism, community participation, and capacity building. Empowering young people with knowledge, skills, and opportunities can help them become responsible, active, and positive contributors to their communities.

International Youth Day 2026: Different Contexts, Common Aspirations

Today, 12 August, International Youth Day, the Arakan Rohingya Society for Peace and Human Rights (ARSPHR) stands in solidarity with Rohingya youth and the wider Rohingya community.

More than 1.2 million Rohingya continue to face statelessness, displacement, limited access to education, and restricted opportunities. Despite these challenges, Rohingya youth continue to demonstrate resilience, courage, leadership, and a strong commitment to building a peaceful and dignified future.

On this International Youth Day, we call on the international community to:

- Amplify the voices and experiences of Rohingya youth.
- Support their education, leadership, and aspirations.
- Create meaningful opportunities for youth participation and empowerment.
- Protect their rights, dignity, and fundamental freedoms.
- Support sustainable solutions that enable Rohingya youth to contribute to peace, justice, and a better future.

Theme: “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.”

Although young people may live in different contexts, their aspirations are often the same: peace, education, dignity, justice, opportunity, and a secure future.

ARSPHR remains committed to supporting Rohingya youth and strengthening their role as agents of positive change in the pursuit of peace, justice, human rights, and sustainable solutions for the Rohingya people.
