Our Story

Juktibodher Unmochone Shohojog Sommilon Chittagong University School of Debate Chittagong University School of Debate (CUSD) [Previously It was known as Bangladesh School of Debate, Chittagong University Chapter (BSD-CU Chapter)] was established in 2009. Since inception, CUSD has differentiated its programs under several categories like varsity-based programs, promotional debate programs and debate assistance programs and miscellaneous arrangements. Varsity Based Programs- CUSD has chalked a hectic approach of programs in Chittagong University (CU) campus to arrange Inter Department Debate Competition every year both in Bangla and English, debate workshops, debate exhibitions, talk shows, topic selection competition etc. It has also arranged several seminars as well. It is now planning to arrange Film Festival in every year related with Democracy, Freedom of Speech, and Protection of Human Rights etc. Promotional Debate and Debate Assistance Programs- CUSD doesn’t want to practice debate only for making orators; rather it sees debate as a means of exploring ideas and thoughts to be used to become conscious of one's responsibility to the society. And this is why, CUSD decided to come up with the Promotional Debate Program (PDP) for the relatively under-privileged rural school children to make them think on their life and rights through programs like inter-school debate competition, debate workshop and counseling for forming debating societies etc. Recent Miscellaneous Activities- CUSD arranged a “Month-long Thematic Debate Workshop” in Chittagong University campus in March 21 –April 27, 2009. Earlier on February 28th to March 1st 2009, we arranged “Omor Ekushe Boi Mela” at Chittagong University campus which was the only two day book fair in Chittagong University campus ever. We arranged “City Corporation Inter School Debate Competition” from January 18 to January 25 where 24 City Corporation schools have participated. CUSD has arranged a seminar on “Overhauling the Constitution, Learning from the past to the Future” jointly with Southern University on 5th October, 2010. On 13th November, 2010 we have organized an open discussion program naming “Mukhomukhi” with a legendary media personality Abul Hayat where students of different universities have attended. We were also in association with the “Leadership Development Program” in Asians Women’s University held in November 1st, 2010. From 14th February to 18th February 2011, we have organized “RSRM-CUSD Inter Department Debate Competition” in the University premises. On 15th August, we arranged “A Round Table Discussion” on the occasion of National Day of Mourn. Very recently, on 6th December 2011, we have organized “Plan Bangladesh-CUSD Inter University & Club Debate Competition” in RPATC at Kazir Dewry, Chittagong. We have successfully arranged our “5th Month Long Thematic Debate Workshop – 2012” from 21st January to May 26. CUSD is attending different national inter university debate competitions & festivals with success. In this year we have successfully completed “Intra CUSD Bitorko Buzz”. CUSD in International Arena- CUSD participated in the 4th Asian Universities Debating Championship 2008, held in IIUM, Kualalumpur, Malaysia, to represent CU. This is the first-ever appearance of CU in any international competition. CU has proudly become a semifinalist of this tournament participated by around 90 best teams from almost all the countries of Asia. This is the best ever result for any Bangladeshi university in such a big competition so far. CUSD is looking forward to take part in the next world debate.
