Hilltops Council advises residents that minor road patching works will be undertaken on Boorowa Street, Young, outside Mad Harry’s and Bunnings.

The works are scheduled to commence on Wednesday 16 September and continue through to Thursday 17 September 2026, weather permitting.

To ensure the safety of employees and the public, appropriate traffic management measures will be in place throughout the works.

🏡 There are two weeks left to submit your Local Heritage Fund grants application.

Provided by Heritage NSW, the program offers owners of local heritage items the opportunity to apply for small grants to help conserve, manage and maintain the heritage significance of their property.

✨ Funding can support work that maintains, preserves or restores elements contributing to a property’s heritage value. Grants cannot be used for improvements such as new kitchens or bathrooms.

💰 Grants are usually provided on a dollar-for-dollar basis, with around $1,000 available to match the owner’s contribution. Owner contributions may include labour and/or materials, rather than cash.

🎨 Council’s Heritage Advisor can also provide free advice, including assistance with colour schemes and proposed works.

Applications close Friday 18 September 2026, including quotations for the proposed work. Approved works must be completed by Friday 16 April 2027.

Priority will be given to places and projects that have not previously received assistance from the Local Heritage Fund. Please note that grants are not available for properties with unpaid rates.

📩 Applicants should contact Council’s Strategic Planning team and Heritage Advisor by lodging a Planning Heritage Enquiry through the Hilltops Council Lodge a Request page or by emailing [email protected] to discuss their proposal and, if required, arrange a property inspection.

📩 Application guidelines and form available at www.hilltops.nsw.gov.au/community/local-heritage-fund

👉 If you own a local heritage property and have conservation or restoration work in mind, now is the time to find out if your project is eligible!

Building Hilltops Futures 🌟

Hilltops Council was proud to take part in the Building Hilltops Futures Information Night, held at the Young Services Club on Monday, 31 August.

A joint initiative of Young High School and Hennessy Catholic College, supported by the NSW Department of Education’s Regional Industry Education Partnership, the evening brought together more than 100 students, families, local employers and industry representatives to explore the apprenticeships, training and employment opportunities available across our region.

The evening featured a Q&A panel with local employers Trimech, Apollo Fabrication, Carpet Court and Hilltops Council, giving young people and their caregivers the opportunity to hear directly from local industry and learn more about pathways from school into the workforce. Representing Council were our HR Officer Martin Schiemer and Civil Works Apprentice Billie-Jo Johnson, who shared their experiences and highlighted the diverse career opportunities available to young people right here in the Hilltops.

The incredible turnout and the connections made throughout the evening demonstrated the strength of our local community and the value of partnerships between schools, families, employers and industry.

As one of the region’s largest employers, Hilltops Council is proud to support initiatives that help young people make the transition from school to work and discover the many career opportunities available within our vibrant and diverse local economy.

A big thank you to Young High School and Hennessy Catholic College for bringing local employers and families together — and to everyone who contributed to such a positive and inspiring evening👏

Sharing on behalf of Transport NSW: Traffic Alert - Changed traffic conditions on Olympic Highway Way at Young

Motorists are advised of changed traffic conditions next week on the Olympic Highway at Young on the bridge across Burrangong Creek for essential maintenance.

Work will be carried out on weekdays between 6am and 5pm from Tuesday 1 September for about eight weeks, weather permitting.

Single lane closures, traffic control and a reduced speed limit of 40 km/h will be in place for the safety of workers and motorists. There will be temporary closures of the shared path under the bridge at various times during the work.

Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions, follow the directions of signs and traffic control and allow an extra five minutes of travel time.

Transport for NSW thanks motorists for their patience during this time.
