Happy Mothers Day!

This Mother’s Day, we celebrate the strength, dedication and compassion of mums everywhere, but especially those in our family.

Across the state, thousands of mothers, grandmothers, mothers-in-law, stepmothers and aunties give their time to help protect their communities. Whether they're on the frontline or supporting behind the scenes their contributions are extraordinary.

Today, we thank them for all they do, not just as RFS members, but as leaders and role models in our brigades and communities.

Over the weekend, one of our members gave up their time to complete the Breathing Apparatus Operators Course (BAO Course) at the Kerslake Training Facility, alongside others from across the Southern Highlands team.

It’s fantastic to see the commitment our volunteers show in building their skills to help protect our community.

Well done to everyone involved 👏

We will remember them. Lest we forget.

Over the past 8 days, Yerrinbool RFS volunteers have been making the most of the favourable weather, assisting with several hazard reduction burns across the local area.

Crews have been out both over the weekends and throughout the week, supporting hazard reductions at Lakesland East Stage 2, Nepean West and Yerrinbool South HR.

These hazard reductions are a strategic part of preparing for the upcoming fire season. They help reduce fuel loads and play an important role in protecting homes, property and our local community.

We thank our dedicated volunteers for their continued commitment and hard work.

With the Bush Fire Danger Period now at an end and conditions becoming more favorable, you may start to see Hazard Reduction Burning taking place locally and in surrounding areas.

These are planned, controlled burns carried out to reduce fuel loads and help protect our communities ahead of future bush fire seasons.

If there is a hazard reduction burn planned for your area, take the following steps:

• Keep doors and windows closed to prevent smoke entering homes
• Keep outdoor furniture under cover to prevent ember burns
• Retract pool covers to prevent ember damage
• Remove washing from clotheslines
• Ensure pets have a protected area
• Vehicles must slow down, keep windows up, turn headlights on
• Sightseers must keep away from burns for their own safety

If you have asthma or a lung condition, reduce outdoor activities if smoke levels are high and if shortness of breath or coughing develops, take your reliever medicine or seek medical advice. More info is available on the Asthma Australia website - https://asthma.org.au/triggers/smoke-bushfires-woodfires-and-wood-heaters/
