Parent information evening for our Year 9 students transitioning into Year 10 in 2027

To support our students and parents, we will be running the event twice:

• Wednesday 9 September, 6:00–7:00 pm – ISC
• Wednesday 16 September, 6:00–7:00 pm – PA

This will allow families to attend the Rugby League Grand Finals on the 9 September and ensure everyone has an opportunity to access the information.

GOODLUCK!
This week we have 3 teams playing off in their Rugby League Grand Finals in their respective divisions. All 3 teams had to overcome challenging Semi Finals with the Grade 9’s even going into extra time and golden point.

If anyone would like to come along and support our boys, the Grand Final details are below.

All games are held at Aurizon Stadium, Rockhampton.
Wednesday – Grade 9’s @ 6.20pm and Grade 10’s @ 7.30pm
Friday – Opens @ 5.40pm

GOODLUCK!
Our Senior Girls Soccer team are in the Grand Final this Thursday 10/09/2026 against Rocky Grammar @ Rocky Grammar 4:45pm kick off. If you can make it to the game, that would be amazing as this is a young side up against it in their first season together.

What an athletics season it has been for YSHS!

Our students showed incredible dedication throughout our 2026 Interhouse Athletics program, turning up in force for our pre-carnival events and arriving at our Athletics Carnival ready to compete, support their houses and give it their all.

Unfortunately, the weather had other plans! We managed to complete only around a quarter of our scheduled events before the rain closed in and brought our carnival to an early end. But that certainly didn’t stop our YSHS athletes!

Our students showed their commitment once again, turning up at Farnborough State School for our Athletics Trial Day to complete the remaining events. Across the track and field, our athletes displayed determination, sportsmanship and plenty of YSHS spirit! Congratulations to our 2026 Age Champions.

Due to the cancelled carnival, there is no Interhouse Athletics Winner for this year. A huge thank you to our staff, student helpers, families and supporters who helped make all of our athletics events possible — particularly with the flexibility required when the weather didn’t go our way.

And finally, congratulations to every student who competed, had a go, supported their mates and earned points for their house. Despite the weather throwing us a curveball, our YSHS athletes made sure the 2026 athletics season was still one to remember!

R U OK?
YSHS will host R U OK? Day next Tuesday, 8 September. Our Year 8 Japanese students wrote “R U OK?” in a different language to help spread the power of an R U OK? conversation.

Congratulations to the six Yeppoon State High School students who were selected as finalists in the 2026 Capricorn Coast Writers Festival Student Short Story Competition. Two of these students were also winners in their age division. The finalists’ stories are now published in an anthology of short stories. Featured in the photo is Bella (winner), Jacklyn and Tarliah (winner).
