🌊 Floodwaters are dangerous — but don’t just take our word for it. Here’s the maths. ➕⚠️
Every time the water speed doubles, the force of the water multiplies by 4! Imagine what that could do to a person or a car! 🚶‍♂️💧🚗

That means what looks shallow can still be deadly.
Floodwater risk = depth + speed + hidden hazards
🟰 serious danger
And it’s not just the water you can see. Floodwater can hide:
🕳️ washed-out roads
🌿 debris
⚡ contamination
🚧 damaged surfaces

So if you come across floodwater:
🔁 Turn around
🚫 Don’t drive through
🚶 Don’t walk through
🚲 Don’t ride through
No destination is worth the risk.

Yass SES sends our thoughts to the families, friends, and colleagues who have all been impacted by last night’s tragedy in Ballina.

We extend our deepest condolences to everyone at Marine Rescue NSW. Volunteers from Marine Rescue have paid the ultimate sacrifice whilst helping members of the community. This tragic event reminds us of the dangers emergency service workers face daily and the loss of fellow volunteers is felt sincerely across the entire emergency services community.

Yass SES also acknowledges the life lost in the incident they were responding to. We extend our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of all involved.

We honour the selfless dedication of those who serve, always putting their communities before themselves.

Thank you for your service - Rest in Peace.

We are looking forward to the next Yass Youth Internship that starts on the 22nd of April and runs throughout term 2. It’s completely free, but we need to fill more places!
If you know a young person high school aged, please be sure to let them know about this amazing opportunity to gain valuable hands on experience. Past participants are welcome to sign up again as well. All participants will receive a letter of recommendation that can be used when looking for jobs.

We are looking forward to the next Yass Youth Internship which starts on the 22nd of April and runs for all of Term 2. But we need to fill three more places!
