Met Australian Special Envoy for Indian Ocean Affairs Tim Watts, who is visiting Singapore under the S R Nathan Fellowship. Tim has long been a thoughtful advocate for Australia’s engagement with Southeast Asia.

We had a wide-ranging discussion on developments in our respective countries, as well as how we can harness the opportunities of AI while navigating its challenges.

Singapore and Australia share a deep reservoir of trust and goodwill, underpinned by strong strategic alignment on common interests and priorities. Our upgraded Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is also testimony to our shared commitment to deepen cooperation and work together in an increasingly complex global environment.

𝗔 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗜𝗻 𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗴𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 🇸🇬🤝🇦🇺

On 11 September 2026, High Commissioner Anil Nayar met with Chief of the Defence Force (CDF) Admiral (ADML) Mark Hammond.

HC Anil congratulated ADML Hammond on his appointment as CDF in July 2026, and discussed his priorities in this new role. HC Anil and ADML Hammond underscored the strong defence relationship between Singapore and Australia, and exchanged views on the next phase of our defence partnership under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership ( .0).🌏

ADML Hammond has been a steadfast friend of Singapore's, supporting the development of bilateral defence cooperation in his previous roles, including as Chief of Navy. In October 2024, ADML Hammond was awarded Singapore's Meritorious Service Medal (Military) for his contributions in strengthening Singapore-Australia defence ties.

The Singapore Armed Forces and Australian Defence Force share a longstanding history of cooperation, joint training, and professional exchanges, underpinned by close collaboration bilaterally, and under the ambit of the ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting-Plus ( ) and the Five Power Defence Arrangements ( ).

💡 : After a 40-year career in the Royal Australian Navy, ADML Hammond became the first submariner to lead the Australian Defence Force as CDF.

On 10 September 2026, High Commissioner Anil Nayar met Senator Dave Sharma, Shadow Assistant Minister for International Development and the Indo-Pacific and Shadow Assistant Minister for Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs.

HC Anil and Senator Sharma exchanged views on issues of mutual interest to Singapore and Australia such as , , , and the .

We look forward to strengthening our engagement of all friends in the Australian Parliament as our two countries forge ahead with the Singapore-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership ( .0)! 🤝✨

On 29 August 2026, Singaporeans and friends gathered in Adelaide, as the Singapore High Commission and Singapore Global Network marked Singapore’s 61st National Day with a reception at the Stamford Plaza Hotel. 🎉

We were delighted to welcome Lord Mayor Dr Jane Lomax-Smith and Councillor Alfredo Cabada as our guests of honour, as they joined in the celebrations alongside our Singaporean community. 👏🙏

Between good food such as nasi lemak and chicken rice and traditional games like chapteh and five stones, the event was a true taste of home for everyone. 🥳

On 2 September 2026, High Commissioner Anil Nayar received a courtesy call from Tonga High Commissioner to Australia, Mr Curtis Leonard Tu'ihalangingie.

HC Curtis is a familiar friend of the High Commission’s, having previously served as Tonga’s Acting HC in Canberra. HC Curtis and HC Anil reaffirmed the warm relations between Singapore and Tonga, and discussed how both countries could do more together. As fellow Small Island Developing States (SIDS), Singapore and Tonga share common vulnerabilities and priorities, particularly in addressing the challenges of climate change. HC Anil reaffirmed Singapore's commitment to working with Tonga through practical capacity building and knowledge sharing under the Singapore Cooperation Programme, and the recently-renewed Singapore-Pacific Resilence and Knowledge Sharing (SPARKS) and SIDS of Change packages. 🇸🇬🤝🇹🇴

We wish High Commissioner Curtis every success in his role!

On 1 September 2026, the Singapore High Commission welcomed students from the Australian National University’s ANU Singapore Students' Association (SSA), ANU PPE Society (PPES), and the ANU Society for the United Nations - ANU SUN for an engaging dialogue on international affairs and diplomatic work. 🇸🇬🤝🇦🇺

High Commissioner Anil Nayar and the students had an open and wide-ranging exchange on the rapidly evolving geopolitical landscape, including the challenges and opportunities arising from greater strategic uncertainty in our region and beyond. 🌏🧭

The discussion also explored how Singapore and Australia are working to address these challenges together — and how young Australians and Singaporeans can contribute to strengthening our bilateral relationship and building a more resilient, connected and peaceful region. 🤝🌱

In an increasingly uncertain world, our people-to-people connections, including education exchanges and engagements, matter more than ever. 🎓🌏✨ Our thanks to the SSA for organising the dialogue, and to PPES and ANUSUN for their enthusiastic participation!

𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐃𝐫 𝐍𝐠 𝐄𝐧𝐠 𝐇𝐞𝐧! 🇸🇬🇦🇺

On 18 August 2026, former Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen was conferred the Honorary Officer of the Order of Australia by Governor-General Sam Mostyn at a ceremony held at the Government House in Canberra.

The award recognises Dr Ng’s significant role in strengthening bilateral defence relations between Singapore and Australia. Under his leadership as Defence Minister from 2011 to 2025, bilateral defence ties achieved key milestones including enhancing defence cooperation under the Singapore-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, as well as the signing and ratification of the 2020 Treaty on Military Training and Training Area Development.

To mark the occasion, High Commissioner Anil Nayar hosted Dr Ng to a congratulatory dinner at the Singapore Residence.

Heartiest congratulations, and thank you for your contributions to strengthening Singapore-Australia defence relations, Dr Ng! 🤝🇸🇬🇦🇺
