Last month, Ambassador Ardi Stoios-Braken, Chief representative NBSO Melbourne, Dai Forterre and Deputy Consul-General Annelies Loeff visited the Nicholls electorate as guest of Sam Birrell MP, Federal Member of Parliament for the National Party.

The two-day visit to Shepparton in Victoria (Goulburn Valley region) focused on agriculture, innovation, education, youth engagement, and the strong Dutch Australian connections that are present in the region.

We were impressed by the strong sense of community across the region and the diversity of economic activity. Visits to local businesses, educational institutions, and community organizations showcased both the entrepreneurial spirit of the Goulburn Valley and its importance as a centre for agriculture, food production, manufacturing, and innovation.

The region provides a solid foundation for future collaboration with the Netherlands in food production, sustainability, and regional development.

A big thank you to Sam Birell and his team for organizing this wonderful visit!

Award-winning Dutch documentary Human Forever is currently breaking all records in the Netherlands and is now coming to Australia for a series of special Q&A screenings with filmmakers Teun Toebes and Jonathan de Jong.

Teun was just 24 when he chose to live in a closed dementia ward - not as a carer, but as a resident – for three and a half years. His mission was to improve the quality of life of people living with dementia.
Together with filmmaker Jonathan de Jong, Teun also visited 11 countries, spread across four different continents, to find out how people from all over the world deal with dementia. They focused in particular on how we can work together to ensure a hopeful future for people suffering from the disease.

Human Forever is an unmissable, thought-provoking documentary that challenges us to rethink how we support people living with dementia.

Don't miss your chance to watch it and to hear from Teun and Jonathan during these special Q&A screenings Down under!

Today is the International Day of UN Peacekeepers - a day to honour all the people who have served or are serving in UN peace missions. With growing unrest and insecurity around the world, the Netherlands deeply values the important work of UN peacekeepers.

Under this year’s theme, Invest in Peace, the United Nations calls for decisive action. Peace does not happen by accident, it requires political will, sustained financing and collective commitment.

In its nearly 80-year history, the relevance of peacekeeping has been questioned repeatedly. In today’s complex conflict environment, UN peacekeeping is bein...

Happy World Bee Day! 🐝🍯

World bee day is celebrated annually to remind us of the vital role bees play to keep people and our planet healthy.

On the embassy grounds, our hive is ready for winter. With temperatures dropping, activity around the hive has slowed down and our bees huddle closely together to keep the hive at a cosy 33°C.

This season we harvested four frames of beautiful honey, leaving the bees with two frames of their own, and we fed them extra sugar syrup to help them through the colder months.

We look forward to seeing our busy friends again in springtime. And of course — nothing tastes better than natural honey straight from the hive!

🇪🇺 Happy Europe Day!

Today, we celebrate the values that unite Europe: Human dignity, Freedom, Democracy, Equality, Rule of Law and Human rights.

As one of its founding members, the Netherlands has been active in the EU and its precursors from the very start. The treaty that formally created the European Union was signed in the Dutch city of Maastricht.

The recently negotiated and long-awaited EU-Australia Free Trade Agreement (FTA) is expected to create further momentum for closer trade and investment collaboration between the EU and Australia, once in force. Once in force, the FTA, the also recently concluded security and defense partnership and AUS association with the EU’s Horizon research program, will make the partnership between AUS and the EU more comprehensive and strategic. The closer collaboration will connect trusted partners with shared values and interests in an increasingly geopolitically volatile world.

In Australia we are proud to work with our friends and colleagues at the European Union in Australia.
