This is the best way to get started- by completing a workshop and volunteering with wildlife Victoria you will learn how to get hands on and complete rescues and transports that are vital to get wildlife into care appropriately.

Cheap netting strikes again. This time- Temu.
This beautiful boy was tangled up in some netting used to protect fruit.
Unfortunately it was the illegal and wildlife damaging kind.
Please ensure you are purchasing your fruit netting from reliable sources or even better get fruit bags to protect individual fruits and share your trees with our wildlife 🩷

Responsible reptile ownership starts well before you bring one home.

That means having the right set up, proper conditions, and for most species – a wildlife licence.

Here are the basics to consider:

🦎 It’s illegal to take reptiles from the wild. Only captive-bred reptiles can be purchased and most must be obtained from a licensed person.
🦎 Different reptile species have different temperature, dietary and environment needs. Research the species you want to keep, so you know how to set up a safe, healthy habitat.
🦎 Reptiles can live for many years, so be ready to care for them throughout their whole lifespan.
🦎 You’ll need a private wildlife licence from the Conservation Regulator to keep most native reptiles.

Want to learn more? You can catch our team at the Victorian Herpetological Society (VHS) Reptile & Amphibian Expo on Saturday 28 March at the Caulfield Racecourse.

Please note, you cannot purchase a wildlife licence at the event. If you plan to purchase animals on the day, make sure you have the right licence in place beforehand.

I’m raising funds to obtain a 3-year Wildlife Controller Licence so I can provide free or donation-based snake removal for our local community.

Right now many families in our region are struggling with the cost of living, and professional snake relocation can be expensive. When people can’t afford help, snakes are often killed or dangerous situations occur.

With this licence, I’ll be able to respond to snake calls and safely remove and relocate them instead of them being harmed, while keeping residents safe.

As a wildlife shelter operator, protecting native wildlife and helping our community has always been my priority. This licence will allow me to expand that work and offer a service that many people here simply can’t afford.

If you’re able to donate or share the fundraiser, it would make a huge difference for both local wildlife and the community.

Every share helps 🐍
