We’re so proud of our incredible community. Thank you to everyone who donated, waved us down, had a chat, or welcomed us in. Your generosity makes a real difference for kids and families when they need it most.

Shoutout to Star Hotel Yackandandah, Happy Baker, Beechworth Bakery and Diving Beryl for having the tins on the counter for the morning. Every dollar makes a difference!

To get ahead of the questions posted tomorrow: yes, they are fire truck sirens you can hear! 🚨

Our fire trucks will leave the station at 9am to collect for the Royal Children's Hospital Good Friday Appeal, and will make their way along the mapped routes, as well as visiting the campsites through the forest.

If you miss the truck or you're down the street and want to donate, we'll be at the station as well.

Give us a wave or come out and say hello! We love being part of this every year and it's just one way that we can support families in one of the hardest times of their lives.

The Fire Danger Period will officially lift at 1.00am on Tuesday, 7 April 2026.

There’s still plenty of dry fuel sitting across our landscape, and fires can start quickly under the right conditions. With patchy rainfall and ongoing dry areas, parts of Victoria are expected to carry higher fire potential well into autumn. All it takes is a warm, windy day and things can escalate fast.

Keep an eye on conditions, check your triggers, and stay connected to official updates:

The latest Seasonal Bushfire Outlook released by AFAC News shows an elevated fire risk across most of Victoria this autumn, including Northeast Victoria around Yackandandah.

Autumn can feel like the safe season, but after dry fuels, warm days and changing winds, fires can still start and spread quickly. Grass curing and leaf litter in the hills and surrounding bush means conditions can remain fire-prone well beyond summer.

This outlook is based on national analysis from fire agencies together with Bureau of Meteorology climate and fire weather experts.

We’re still very much in the "fire season". Please stay alert and keep an eye on VicEmergency and CFA updates.

It is dry, dry DRY across North East Victoria. You can see it just driving around town. Paddocks are crunchy, bush tracks are dusty, and it doesn’t take much wind to kick things up.

Tuesday 10/02/2026 is a 🚫 Total Fire Ban for North East and Extreme Fire Danger Rating day 🟧

On an Extreme Fire Danger Rating day, that dryness matters. Fires can start easily and move fast, especially in grass and light bush.

Have your bushfire plan sorted before the heat hits. Know when you will leave, where you will go, and how you will get there. Decide who is grabbing the kids, who is loading the pets, and what goes in the car.

Leaving early is always the safest option. Waiting to see smoke is too late.
These are the days where being prepared makes all the difference.

Seventeen years ago today, Victoria changed forever.

February 7th 2009, Black Saturday, wasn’t just a date on the calendar. It was a day that tore through towns, families and landscapes, and left scars that still sit quietly beneath the surface. For so many people, the memories are as sharp now as they were then.

Today is about remembering those who didn’t come home, holding space for those who did, and acknowledging the strength of communities that rebuilt when everything felt broken.

It’s also a reminder that fire doesn’t belong to the past. Preparation, awareness and looking out for one another still matter deeply.

Thinking of everyone who carries Black Saturday with them, today and always.

A Total Fire Ban has been declared for Thursday February 4th, as well as the day having an Extreme Fire Danger Rating.

On Total Fire Ban days, most people think about obvious risks like campfires and burn-offs, but there are many less obvious activities that can also start fires that often get overlooked.

Things like parking a hot car over long grass, using angle grinders or welders, mowing or slashing dry grass, and even using some battery-powered tools can create sparks.

Using machinery in paddocks, operating pumps or generators, disposing of ci******es, or leaving glass bottles in dry vegetation can also pose a risk.

These everyday actions don’t feel dramatic, but on a Total Fire Ban day, when fuels are extremely dry and conditions are volatile, they can be enough to start a fast-moving fire.

Being mindful of the small, routine things we do is just as important as avoiding open flames.

Sunday 01/02/2026 is a 🚫 Total Fire Ban for North East and Extreme Fire Danger Rating day 🟧

While we're expecting a smidge of rain overnight and into the morning, the predicted storms can also bring lightning and possible new fire ignitions. The bush and paddocks around us are bone dry, and it doesn’t take much for them to burn.

Add forecasted gusty winds to the mix and you begin to understand why a Total Fire Ban has been declared, despite the temps being lower than we've seen for over a week.

On days of Extreme Fire Danger, fires can start easily, spread fast, and become dangerous very quickly.

Please treat tomorrow seriously, avoid anything that could create a spark, and make sure your bushfire plan is up to date and has been shared with everyone in your family.
