This includes road accident rescue, vertical rescue, bush search and rescue, evidence searches (both metropolitan and rural) and other forms of specialist rescue that may be required due to local threats. 5 fun facts about the NSW SES.
🚨 1.The NSW SES has more than 10,500 volunteers spread across hundreds of units across the state. That's enough people to fill a small country town!
🌧️ 2. Storms keep the SES busiest
While many people associate the SES with floods, storm damage jobs such as leaking roofs, fallen trees, and damaged buildings make up a huge portion of callouts every year.
🚁 3. SES volunteers can be deployed anywhere in Australia
When major disasters strike interstate, NSW SES volunteers often pack their bags and head off to help communities hundreds or even thousands of kilometres away.
📱 4. The famous number is 132 500
Need help with flood or storm damage? The SES number is 132 500. It's one of the most recognised emergency numbers in NSW after Triple Zero.
🐨 5. SES volunteers rescue more than just people
Over the years, volunteers have helped rescue everything from dogs and cats to horses, cattle, and native wildlife trapped by storms and floods. Some SES members have stories that sound like they're straight out of a movie!
Bonus Fun Fact 🎉
The orange uniform wasn't chosen by accident. The bright colour makes SES volunteers highly visible during storms, floods, road crashes, and search operations, helping keep both volunteers and the public safer.

📍 Ravensdale Recon
Our awesome Flood Rescue vehicle was looking right at home in the winter sunshine yesterday as our crew carried out reconnaissance activities around Ravensdale.
One of the highlights of the day was meeting several local residents who stopped to say hello and share their knowledge of the area. Local insight is incredibly valuable and helps us build a better understanding of the communities we serve.
A big thank you to everyone who took the time to chat with us. Your experience and local knowledge play an important role in helping us prepare for future emergencies.

❄️ Winter Has Arrived on the Central Coast ❄️

Today marks the first day of Winter.

The days are shorter, the mornings are crisper, and the nights are definitely getting colder. It's the time of year when the ugg boots come out of hiding, electric blankets are switched on, and many of us find ourselves reaching for an extra jumper before heading out the door.

Winter can bring cold, wet and sometimes miserable weather, but no matter what the season throws our way, your Wyong SES volunteers stand ready to help.

Whether it's storm damage, fallen trees, leaking roofs, flood assistance, or responding during severe weather events, our dedicated volunteers are ready to help.

While we can't stop Winter from arriving, we can help our community stay safe through it.

From the first chilly morning of Winter to the hottest day of Summer, and every day in between, your Wyong SES Unit is ready, willing and proud to serve our community.

Stay warm, stay safe, and enjoy everything a Central Coast Winter has to offer. 💙🧡

Advice

The NSW SES advises people in the following area(s) to STAY INFORMED about predicted rising water and possible flash flooding on the Wyong River & Jilliby Creek:

You should stay informed by monitoring warnings issued by NSW SES on their website and page, listening to your local ABC radio station, and checking the latest weather information from the Bureau of Meteorology online.

What are we expecting?

Observations are showing impacts from recent rain in the area causing rises in the creek and water across some local roads.

NSW SES urges residents to continue to monitor the situation and be aware of potential for low lying roads or causeways that may see some water pooling in the area.

NSW SES volunteers responded to flood rescues in the early hours of this morning at Ourimbah and Narara after vehicles became trapped in floodwater.

Please take extra care on the roads today. If you come across flooding, don’t get swept up in the moment — stop, turn around and find another way.
Never drive, walk or ride through floodwater.
