12,700 farming families are receiving $100,000. Rebates for emergency water infrastructure are available to help them get through the drought.

It's going to be a scorcher today!πŸ₯΅πŸ”₯

I don't think it's fair that schoolkids should have to sit in sweltering classrooms all day and be expected to learn in those conditions. Air-conditioning every state school classroom is a big investment, but our kids’ education is worth it.

Now the dust has settled a little, I just wanted to sincerely thank everyone who has contacted me over the last 24 hours. The support and trust my colleagues have placed in me to be Deputy Mayor of our great city is one I am humbled and excited to get started. New Lord Mayor and I, along with our administration team have an exciting new agenda that’s 100% focused on the future. It’s an agenda that’s about building a better city and protecting what’s great about Brisbane.

Happy International Women's Day from Townsville where the Deb Frecklington MP led LNP Shadow Cabinet is meeting today.

Some interesting facts this IWD2019:

The first female to be elected to the Commonwealth House of Representatives was Dame Enid Lyons of Tasmania. She also went on to become the first female to serve in the Federal Cabinet. Dame Lyons was a Liberal.

The first female to serve in the Queensland Legislative Assembly was Irene Longman - a member of the Country and Progressive National Party.

Yvonne Chapman was the first woman to hold a Cabinet position in the Queensland when she represented Pine Rivers as both Member of Parliament and Mayor. Yvonne was a member of the National Party.

Joan Sheldon, long-time member of the Liberal Party and Member for Landsborough then Caloundra, was the first female in Queensland to lead a political party.

Fiona Simpson MP, my LNP colleague and Member for Maroochydore, served as the first female Speaker of the Queensland Parliament.

Sallyanne Atkinson was the first and, to date, the only female Lord Mayor of Brisbane. Sallyanne is a member of the Liberal Party.

May their stories inspire you this International Women’s Day.
