The Tiwi Islands were impacted during Tropical Cyclone Fina over the weekend.

Milikapiti and Pirlangimpi Police and volunteers from community businesses including Jipungwayi, Tiwi Islands Training & Employment Board (TITEB) and Bathurst Island Housing Association (BIHA) are undertaking efforts to clear access roads leading to Tiwi College and several outstations that remain inaccessible. Crews are actively removing debris, assessing safety risks and working to reopen the roads as quickly as possible.

Community members are asked to avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas until further notice to allow machinery and personnel to operate safely.

There is also planning underway to send resources to the impacted areas that have been cut off from essential services.

For urgent matters or safety concerns, please contact local Police.

Wet season safety starts with your tyres! 🚗

Bald or under-inflated tyres can dramatically increase your stopping distance on wet roads. Before you hit the road this wet season:

✅ Check your tread depth - at least 1.5mm is required, but more is safer.
✅ Make sure your tyres are inflated to the correct pressure for your vehicle.
✅ Replace any tyres showing cracks or uneven wear.

A few minutes of maintenance could prevent a serious crash.
