CWA Woy Woy Branch

CWA Woy Woy Branch Woy Woy CWA was founded in 1932. We meet every Wednesday of the month from 9am for craft and chat You don't even have to do craft.

We meet every Wednesday at 9am for craft and chat & every 4th Wednesday of the month at 9:30am for our monthly meeting. We are a well established group with a very historical & well respected background in the Woy Woy area. We have some members that are avid bakers & some that just come along for the social aspect & to help with fundraising and awareness. We help CWA NSW with causes that the CWA i

s involved in. This can include many varied endeavours, charities and government lobbying. No longer is the CWA about Tea and Scones (though we enjoy that too), so come along and meet us and help us take Woy Woy CWA into the 21st Century. For more wonderful information about the CWA have a look at the CWA NSW website at www.cwaofnsw.org.au

Today, the 3rd of September is Australian National Flag Day. It marks the first time the Australian National Flag was flown during Australia’s year of Federation. On this date in 1901, the Rt Hon Edmund Barton announced the winners of an international competition to design a flag for our nation. A flag, measuring 5.5 metres by 11 metres, was flown over the dome of the Royal Exhibition Building in Melbourne, the site of Australia’s first Parliament.

This year marks the 125th anniversary of Federation, the adoption of the Constitution, the first sitting of Commonwealth Parliament on 9 May 1901, and the first official flying of the Australian National Flag. Australian National Flag Day is an opportunity for all Australians to come together to celebrate the values of fairness, aspiration and opportunity that unite us.

Yesterday our branch International Officer Liz Shaw was met by Tracey at State office in Sydney Country Women's Association (CWA) of NSW

Liz delivered three suitcases full of donations collected and or made by Woy Woy branch members.

These mothers and babies items will be sent to Fiji along with many more items from other branches.

Just another little something that we do that isn't often talked about or known.

National Wattle Day is celebrated in Australia on 1 September, marking the start of spring and honoring the golden wattle, the national floral emblem.

National Wattle Day celebrates Australia and being Australian, with the golden wattle (Acacia pycnantha) serving as a unifying symbol of resilience, diversity, and national identity. The wattle’s bright green and gold colors are widely recognized and even appear on Australian coins, medals, and sporting uniforms, symbolizing unity and the enduring spirit of Australians in the face of challenges like droughts and bushfires

The first Wattle Day celebrations occurred in 1910 across New South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia. It was initially linked to patriotism, community fundraising, and support for soldiers during wartime. On 1 September 1992, the day was officially proclaimed as National Wattle Day by the Governor-General of Australia

The golden wattle itself was declared Australia’s national floral emblem on 1 September 1988

Last week seven members and one gorgeous guide dog from our branch visited the long established CWA Tearooms at Eastwood for our monthly cultural outing.

The Tea and Rest rooms celebrated 30 years this year and is worth a visit. Our table looked beautiful and inviting and the scones were gorgeous with our hot cuppa.

The President of the branch gave us an informative history talk. After our morning tea and chat we walked the main street of Eastwood and enjoyed looking at all the different Asian shops and restaurants. It was a feast for the senses.

We enjoyed a light lunch in a Chinese tea garden cafe and left for home with the sun still shining.
