🌏 Happy World Environment Day!

Every choice we make has an impact on our planet. Today, take a moment to connect with nature, reduce waste, support conservation and do something positive for wildlife.

Together we can make a difference for the animals and wild places we all love. πŸ’šπŸΎ

We are thrilled to announce some exciting primate news at Wildlife HQ!

On Mother's Day, our siamang pair welcomed their very first baby into the world β€” a special milestone for both the family and our zoo team.

At the same time, we're also celebrating the first birthday of Swah-Knee, our much-loved white-cheeked gibbon, who has spent the past year delighting guests and keepers alike with his playful personality.

These births are an important contribution to the conservation and management of these incredible primate species, and we're excited to watch both youngsters grow and thrive.

Be sure to keep an eye out for them on your next visit!

Incredible work by the team at Free the BearsοΏΌ rescuing 27 moon bears trapped in an illegal bear bile farm in Laos β€” the largest ever bear rescue in Southeast Asia.

Bear bile farms keep bears confined in small cages so bile can be extracted for use in traditional medicine, causing immense long-term suffering and welfare issues.

These bears are now in safe hands and on their way to the Luang Prabang Wildlife Sanctuary.

You can follow more of this amazing story and journey for these bears on their page πŸ‘‡

Today is International Sun Bear Day πŸ»β˜€οΈ

Here’s Maly doing what sun bears do best β€” tearing open a termite mound looking for treats! Their huge claws, strong jaws and long tongues are perfectly designed for ripping into logs and nests in search of insects and honey.

Sun bears may be the smallest bear species in the world, but they play a big role in rainforest ecosystems β€” and sadly are under threat from habitat loss and illegal wildlife trade.

Safe to say Maly approved of today’s enrichment

🐨 Today is Wild Koala Day 🐨

A day to recognise and protect koalas in the wild

Across Australia, wild koalas are facing ongoing threats from habitat loss, disease, and climate events β€” and they need our help more than ever.

Even small actions like protecting native trees and supporting conservation efforts can make a difference

🐻 SUPPORT OUR KEEPERS – NIGHT IN A CAGE 2026 🐻

On May 10, our Wildlife HQ team will be taking part in Night in a Cage to raise funds for Free the Bears.

Across Southeast Asia, many bears spend their entire lives trapped in cages barely bigger than their bodies, victims of the illegal wildlife trade and bile farming.

For one night, our keepers will experience a small glimpse of that reality β€” to help raise funds and awareness to end it.

Every donation supports Free the Bears and their incredible work rescuing, rehabilitating, and protecting these animals.

Even $5 makes a difference. Let’s get behind the team and help give these bears a future. 🧑🐻
