It should go without saying: gas canisters DO NOT belong in any household bin! ๐Ÿ˜งโš ๏ธ

These nitrous oxide canisters were pulled from a Cleanaway truck last week, after being collected from a household recycling bin. Thankfully, the truck's driver caught it on camera before it reached the compactor. This is just one example of several recent near-misses involving gas bottles and pressurised containers from bins.

This is extremely dangerous. Containers like this can explode under heat or impact, posing a serious risk to collection crews, waste centre workers and anyone nearby.

Gas bottles, aerosols, batteries and anything pressurised or explosive can not go in general waste or recycling! Common household examples (if they're not completely empty) include soda maker canisters, hairspray, dry shampoo, deodorant, cooking oil sprays, spray paint, camping gas canisters, helium canisters, duster cans and of course nitrous oxide.

If you're not sure how to dispose of something safely, check Which Bin? or take it to our Beverley Recycling and Waste Centre. Thanks to Cleanaway for spotting this one and sharing the photos with us.

Ever wanted to peep beyond the gates of Fort Glanville Conservation Park, Semaphore Park? ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿฐ

This stretch of our coastline holds a significant piece of South Australia's colonial history โ€“ the fort remains largely unaltered since it was built in 1880 to boost Australia's defence strategy.

Join one of the upcoming Open Days (monthly from September to May) and explore the Fort and Visitor's Centre. Visitors are treated to full historical reenactments by members of the Fort Glanville Historical Assoc. Inc., including military drills and cannon firing. ๐Ÿ’ฅ
