The wall surrounding the public toilet and Changing Places facility at 𝗣𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗺 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲 has been given a fresh new look by Adelaide artist Sam Songailo.

The artwork was commissioned as part of broader upgrades delivered by Council's Open Space and Property team, bringing colour and creativity to one of Semaphore Park's most popular coastal spots. 🎨🌊

We’ve loved watching artist TaylrJay bring the creative ideas from students of Star of the Sea School and St Michael's College and insights from the Marine Discovery Centre together for a mural acknowledging the impact of the Karenia algal bloom on our beaches.

During workshops, students explored what the coast means to them and our community, sharing messages of hope, happiness, calm and recovery. It’s these reflections that will feature in a vibrant mural to be installed on the Marine Discovery Centre, Henley Beach, capturing our much-loved marine species.

We can’t reveal too much more just yet. You'll have to wait to see it unveiled when it's installed in October.

The mural is with thanks to support from the Algal Bloom Support Package.

📸 🌊 One of our City's SALA Artist Registration Subsidy recipients, Marek Czaplinski, is exhibiting in this year’s SALA Festival, as part of the 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗘𝘅𝗵𝗶𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 in Henley Beach.

What began as Marek’s artistic passion for photography has since grown into two successful local businesses. He is now the co-owner of Creative Soul Prints and Up In Frames, two well-known Henley Beach businesses operating from the same location where the exhibition is being held.

Featuring more than 20 local artists, the 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗘𝘅𝗵𝗶𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 showcases original works across painting, photography, textiles, mixed media and drawing, highlighting the depth of creative talent in our community. Marek’s piece in the exhibition is called ‘Salty Dips’ - it’s a typical West Beach coastal scene at dusk.

Other artists featured are: Christina Adamczyk | Bindi Amor | Jo Bertram | Daniela Boin | Matthew Cooper | Kerrie Drogemuller | Candace Gywther | Amy Hamlyn | Patrick Hedges | Bec Hill | Simon McIntyre | Victoria Rolinski | Greer Tappert | Jan Thomas | Samantha Tipler | Madeleine Todd | Jono Tolley | Ania Walczak | Robyn Zadow | Mary Zammit.

The Artist Registration Subsidy Scheme supports local artists and venues to participate in SALA, helping make arts and culture more visible and accessible across our City.
