Last weekend Paddy and the team spent some time learning about AIIMS. AIIMS is the system we use to coordinate a large scale disaster. It's kind of important πŸ˜‰..... Paddy was the 'boss' as Incident Controller then found the chocolates and ended the weekend in a chocolate coma. Naughty Paddy! 🀣🀣

Yet again, the amazing community of Woodgate have put smiles on the dials of the Woodgate SES members. A huge thank you to the wonderful volunteers from the Woodgate Book Sale for their donation to our group last month. Thanks to their generosity, we have been able to purchase a couple of much needed items for our group. A battery operated leaf blower to keep our shed area clean, tidy and debris free and a bench vice so that we can safely sharpen our chainsaws. Thank you to the Book Sale volunteers for your generous donation. ❀️❀️❀️❀️

Wow!!! Young Paddy had a huge weekend last weekend. On Saturday he joined the Woodgate team at the Bundaberg SES shed where we climbed onto a roof to simulate roof repairs and then we performed a controlled lower. These training days are vitally important to our volunteers. It ensures they are well equipped with the knowledge and skills required to help the community in times of need. On Sunday, members from Woodgate, Childers and Elliot Heads attended the Childers Festival where we had a tent set up to assist with any First Aid needs. Paddy helped out as much as he could - he did sleep a lot though - apparently getting on that roof on Saturday really wore him out! 🀣
Lots of people visited the SES tent and many went home with an awesome 'stress pyramid', some stickers and colouring in books. What a fabulous weekend! ❀️

Fun Fact Friday – Cyclones πŸŒͺ

Did you know? Tropical cyclones that impact Queensland are given names to make communication easier during severe weather events. 🌴

The names alternate between male and female and are chosen from a pre-approved list. If a cyclone causes significant damage, its name is retired forever! 🚫

For example, Cyclone Larry (2006), Cyclone Yasi (2011), and Cyclone Debbie (2017) are names you’ll never hear again in Queensland.

Having a solid plan in place before cyclone season is crucial.

On the weekend, the Bundaberg SES unit was lucky enough to have Careflight conduct a trauma care workshop. Woodgate SES members attended and young Paddy was in his element, learning all about what to do in a trauma situation. Our team learnt so much at the workshop, expanding our First Aid knowledge and learning lots of new things that will be invaluable within our community. Paddy was very hands on and just wanted to be in every situation - such a show off! 🀣πŸ₯°

What a brilliant little community we live in!!! On the last Tuesday of every month, there is an amazing book sale at the local community hall. All proceeds from this sale get donated to different organisations within the Woodgate community. For the month of June, the wonderful crew at the book sale chose to donate the proceeds to the Woodgate SES group. Thanks to the generosity of the community and the book sale we are now able to purchase gaiters for each and every member of our group. These provide lower leg protection for our members from snake bites, stones, thorns, branches, moisture etc when on land searches. Thank you so much again from all the volunteers at Woodgate SES ❀️❀️
